Hello all, i would like to know what do you people think about the creation of The Fifth International?
Here is an article I got from Wikipedia about President Hugo Chavez calling for the creation of The Fifth International
Calls for a Fifth International
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_International
In November 1938, just two months after the founding congress of the Fourth International, seven members of the POUM (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/POUM) on trial in Barcelona (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Barcelona) declared their support for a "fighting Fifth International".[1] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-0) The Argentine Trotskyist Liborio Justo (http://www.revleft.com/w/index.php?title=Liborio_Justo&action=edit&redlink=1), better known as "Quebracho", called for a Fifth International when he broke from Trotsykism in 1941.[2] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-1) Another call for a Fifth International was made by Lyndon LaRouche (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Lyndon_LaRouche) after leaving the Spartacist League (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/International_Communist_League_(Fourth_Internation alist)) in 1965.[3] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-2) Later, a 'Fifth International of Communists' was founded in 1994 by several very small former Trotskyist groups around the Movement for a Socialist Future (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Movement_for_a_Socialist_Future).
League for the Fifth International
In 2003, the League for a Revolutionary Communist International called for the formation of the Fifth International "as soon as possible - not in the distant future but in the months and years ahead".[4] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-3) The LRCI changed its name at this time to League for the Fifth International. They became the League for the Fifth International (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/League_for_the_Fifth_International) (L5I), which has since grown significantly and as of 2010 has sections in Austria, Britain, Czech Republic, Germany, Pakistan, Sweden, Sri Lanka (the Socialist Party of Sri Lanka (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Socialist_Party_of_Sri_Lanka)) and the United States. The League for the Fifth International campaigns in the European Social Forum (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/European_Social_Forum) and the international labour movement (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Labour_movement) for the formation of a new International. A split from them before they were known as the L5I, the Communist Workers' Group (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Communist_Workers%27_Group_(New_Zealand)) in New Zealand, also argues for a Fifth International.
Venezuela
Hugo Chávez (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Hugo_Ch%C3%A1vez) announced in 2007 that he would seek to create a new international, which because of the size of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/United_Socialist_Party_of_Venezuela) could become an actual fifth international: "2008 could be a good time to convoke a meeting of left parties in Latin America to organise a new international, an organisation of parties and movements of the left in Latin America and the Caribbean".[5] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-4)[6] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-5) On November 21, 2009, in Caracas, Venezuela, during the First International Encounter of Left-wing Parties, Chavez called for the convoking of the Fifth Socialist International in April 2010 in Venezuela.[7] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-6)
It was reported that the Bolivian Movement for Socialism (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Movement_for_Socialism_(Bolivia)), International Marxist Tendency (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/International_Marxist_Tendency), the Salvadoran FMLN (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/FMLN), the Nicaraguan FSLN (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/FSLN), the Ecuadorian PAIS Alliance (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/PAIS_Alliance), the Chilean Proposal for an Alternative Society (http://www.revleft.com/w/index.php?title=Proposal_for_an_Alternative_Societ y&action=edit&redlink=1), the Guatemalan New Nation Alliance (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/New_Nation_Alliance), and the Australian Socialist Alliance (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Socialist_Alliance_(Australia)) are likely to join the new International. Representatives of the Portuguese Left Bloc (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Left_Bloc), the German Left Party (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Left_Party_(Germany)), and the French Left Party (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Left_Party_(France)) expressed interest but said they would need to consult. The Communist Party of Cuba (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/Communist_Party_of_Cuba) seemed to favour the proposal, but many other Communist Parties were strongly opposed.[8] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-7) The League for the Fifth International critically supports the proposal.[9] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-8) As of April 2010, the declaration awaits Chávez's signature.[10] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-9)
