Is it really possible to create a working class utopia? All evidence is that the best efforts of the best people have failed to produce a model which meets the ideal: the USSR, China, Vietnam, North Korea, etc. have all failed and had to return to semi-capitalism or fall into despotism, or both.
Any time things get as far as the transitional phase, it gets hijacked by power hungry individuals or groups who will not yield power. Many people say that this is because it is sadly part of human nature and can't be overcome, that there is no amount of checks and balances which could guard against it and allow a transition to be a success.
I saw the other day, for instance, that Leftists can't even agree on what human rights would be guaranteed in a Leftist society. I would have imagined basic freedoms, apart from those relating to private property, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights could apply. With such minor disagreements, its easy to see what despotism and purges against former comrades run rife depending on who reaches the top first.
So, are we all wasting our lives or can we ever overcome these massive barriers, some would argue, nature itself?
