Since we probably can't get any speakers, should we have a left-wing professor here come talk? Should we make it a discussion group? Show a powerpoint? Show a movie? I'd like your ideas.

Our main goals are to, well, attract people and be convincing.

I think you should have a more open discussion - maybe about what the revolt in Egypt means for the US's "War on Terror" (i.e. imperialism in the middle east) and what it means for the US anti-war movement or the posibility for building anti-war momentum.

You could see if there is an Arab student group on campus that wants to come or even speak to instructors if there is a middle-eastern studies program. Aside from people who know a lot of Egyptian history and politics, no on is really an "expert" on the Egyptian revolt since it's still so new - I think that could make for a really free-flowing and interesting discussion.

Make it two events.

The first event should be informal, a discussion group with 1-2 students/teachers speaking, and offer free food and coffee or something. This should serve to net you 10-20+ folks to make the next event larger. Discuss whatever it is you plan on discussing though "anti-war meeting" seems rather silly as you'd need to be more specific. Also, inform the local political groups on campus to see if any of their members want to come.

Then have a second event with more free food and coffee or whatever. In this event have 3 or so speakers and possibly a debate/open discussion. This event should be piggy-backed on the first so that the folks who came the first time have enough time to get more people but not too much to lose interest. Contact professors for the first event and make second contact about a week before the second event to give them enough time.

As to specifics for the discussion, JH makes good suggestions above.
