I'm going to attend a Feminist Collective meeting in my city and just wanted to ask what I should expect. This is an attempt to try and find people around my area who ARE at least somewhat politically aware as I know pretty much no one and I have never attended anything close to any type of organization type work.
It looks a bit interesting. I picked up a booklet at an art show last night and it talks about sexual assault and rape, how women can defend themselves and how men can help. I'm just a bit nervous I guess that I might encounter some man-haters or something as I have no previous experience going to these types of things. Any opinions/suggestions?

Just be chill and let them know you are interested. The vast majority of feminists like having male allies.

Don't be sexist. Act like you normally would.
You'll be set.

"Man haters" really aren't as prevalent among feminists as people tend to think. You'll be fine. And if you do encounter any man haters, fuck em

You see the potential contradiction in your advice I hope.

Do not literally try and fuck 'em that is a sure way to get kicked out.

This. I've yet to meet a single one.
The feminists I know have all been friendly and welcoming. Just listen to what people have to say in the meeting and if it's anything like political meetings here, you'll probably end up in the pub afterwards where you can have a more informal chat about politics and things. Hopefully there will be some marxist or anarchist feminists there.

yeah, I'm really going by stereo types by all things just because I have never been to any type of organizational type of meeting, leftist or not. My city is sooooo conservative, it gets kinda nerve wrecking to voice any type of opinion besides the norm. Lately, I've been finding a crowd that is kinda more of liking(besides the whole rave, party, free for all scene) downtown. It seems like everyone congregates in this independent coffee shop, where the feminist meeting is held every 2nd Sunday. I have talked to random people there that voice their opinions a bit out of the norm, but its not a bad thing :)

Everyone can have their sexist moments even if they're not sexist.

This. We all try hard to counteract the lifetime's worth of sexism, homophobia, racism, etc., we have been surrounded by, but it's inevitable something stupid will slip out on occasion. The point is to recognize it as what it is when it happens and work to rectify and address it.

Well I think it might be good if he attends for educational purposes and shows some solidarity with the feminist group. I don't think he would be a pest.

I don't see a problem with men being involved in the feminist movement. Men should be supportive. It's not as though men can't have good ideas and show solidarity.
