I'm running for President of our Freshman class, and i want to change the whole system. I dont know how, but it does need alot of changing. I'm going to try and incorperate Che into my campaign, i have an idea to have his image on a poster and say "a revolutionary way of thinking, Vote Lennox"
or somthing to that degree, should i use che? or do you guys have any pointers on what i should do to win, other than promise better food and less homework?

I know what you mean, i just stopped participating in sports this year, i'm trying to focus on my academics, before that i dont want to seem conceeded but like i was first string on track, football, and wrestling everyone thinks its wierd im joining the Model UN and Student council. But like i'm the smartest kid in my classes, so that doesnt speak much of Michigan schools. But i think if we control what kids notice most they'll begin to want to learn about this wierd dude with a beard on my shirt. You know it gets them interested, especially when i have to explain how he died being taken out by the CIA seems to be cool, i wish some of these kids were shot with a tommy gun instead of che.
But if you guys have any tips, it'll help

HA, the fucking school "electoral" system is full of shit. I served in the lower house of parliment in Year 8 (im from Australia, so change to suit your country) and we had like 2 meetings ALL YEAR, voted on the most useless shit (we got a coke machine, huraah) and basically had no power at all (we couldnt even talk about important issues, like more resources for the school)
They just had speaches for school president, fucking hell, what a bunch of asswhipes, these people were making big promises like "im gonna make the school a better place" while kissing up to the government "we have a fair and democratic system in Australia where everyone can have their say".
I managed to get like 20% of students to boycott the lower house elections this year, next year the WHOLE FUCKIN SYSTEMS GONNA BURN (not physically so but you get the idea) :D

It's all loads of crap. You know, in Brazil there's a students' union for hight schoolers. In an American school about the only constructive thing you can do though, is hand out flyers and become active in good clubs, maybe even write for the newspaper, but student council is normaly loads of shit.

Using Che as a advertising agent would be a good idea, he's quite the pop-culture icon these days. But as its been said already, you're not going to have any power, especially in the mind-less schools we have (based of course on American schooling, which, i might say is crap--considering that the teaching styles have remained the same for the past 50 years) ...and before i go off, good luck to you.

running for a useless role seems great! see you at the pep rally because thats all you will be able to do!
why do you want to run for president? It always seemed like just a way to make your college resume' seem "better".

We don't have those kind of things in the good ol' British authoritarian schools, we have and elected head-boy and head-girl, but they don't have any powers really.
What kind of powers would you have? Not including magical powers.
And on the Che issue, use his picture if that is what you represent, plus people seem to go for his image, but don't exploit it, no-one likes a capitalist.

I know the student counsil has very little power, thats what i'm going to change....in the past week i've been in school our teacher in Civics has tried to press one thing into our heads, "The government doesnt control the people, the people control the government" and he knew alot about Malcom X, and other things like che and fidel....But what i'm trying to say is that without the students, the principal and teachers are useless and have no power, what's the point of a principal, to keep students inline and disiplined. if we organized they cannot control us like they do now. :che: :hammer: :castro: :cuba:

schools do not need an emancipation of the student body, perhaps if the students had a union of some sort this would be good, but it seems that your talking of giving power to the students the way one would talk about giving power the working masses, gime a fucking break! Like I said before, the best thing you can do for your fellow students is to teach them the truth.

Kids dont care about those things honestly. They majority will vote for their friends and the most popular while the rest wont give a shit and just vote for whoever the guy next to them is voting for. But go ahead, I'm not too sure what you can do there.
I'm going to be one of hte executive chairs (originallly called the pres. but since theres two of us) for M.E.Ch.A. and that club has really made a diffrence throughout the years. My advice is to start one or start something like it at your school if you can. Ive tried brining up issues from M.E.Ch.A here in this board and M.E.Ch.A as a whole up in this site, but you lot dont care!
aherm, but whatava dude, take the power back!

mate, you gotta turn there heads upside down! do what chomsky said and get the students interested in the schools politics.
go for the council but maybe (for a joke) use the hammer & stickle and then like everyone will flip! but go for the che!
good luck even though you might not have a lot of power. (that's where you changes are goona be! :)

You can try to get elected, but as I said, it makes no real difference in overall school activities.
If you want to change anything, set up a rival union/council with directly elected spokespersons who take ideas to the principle/headmaster. Ive been thinking about this for a while, any opinions?

That would be more effective.
Participating in school elections is about as effective as participating in bourgeois elections -- there is no effect whatsoever.

only me and my best friend voted for me in my school but it is stupid becuse i didn't get to tell pepole what my policy's where wich where to get us lockers and better food and toilets the guy who one my ex freind had one to get better toilets. As well last year the teacher told pepole to vote for the guy who one. The day befor the election i said i was a communist to my r.e teacher and the whole cass then evry one was free to attack communism and she changed the topic when i started to argue back i don't think that helped.

Campaining for elections at our school amounts to getting up on parade for around a minute, no policies, just a "vote for me".

Take a more "rough" approach to the problem. Hire some muscle and beat your opponents with baseball bats, just to make sure that they know that there competion is not appreciated. Also have your muscle standing by the ballot box in an attempt to sway opinion in the last minute.

"revolution"!? Come on, comardes! Schools do not need an emancipation of the student body! For the purposes of school, I think that the administrators can keep their power. If you attain any power, act democraticaly, and do what the student body wants, you'll end up pushing for things like allowing weed smoking during class.

i know what you mean, my schoolmates are total dumbfucks who want free pop at lunch and MTV during math....they dont realize what power they could have.....anything outside of michigan is too advanced for them
Dr. Rosenpenis
8th September 2003, 21:12
Exactly, comarde, and you should just try to educate them, not so they can exercise power (I think they're too young), but so they can exercise power in the future.

I don't remember who said it (there was probably more than one), but student government was just a popularity contest for rich kids looking to beef up their high school transcripts for college applications. Believe me, I know.
I served as a representative in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. I ran for council president in 7th (my term would have been 8th). In the one speech I was allowed, I tryed to pull a pity vote from the girls on campus. ;) Damn near worked (I came within 30 votes of beating the most popular kid in school w/ a student body of nearly 900).
In 9th, I served as a representative. In 10th I somehow fucked up and got elected sophomore class vice-president, beating the same girl I had lost to 3 years earlier in the presidential election. That earned me a political lynching however. The rest of the officers were girls who were the most popular in my class. Later that year, they had me impeached and booted out for not selling enough car wash tickets. In my absence, they nominated and convinced the class representatives to approve the girl I had beat in the election.
No bullshit.
My advice is join the newspaper. I managed to rock the boat there pretty well. Unfortunately, the co-editors in chief had me run out after I told the ads editor, "Hell no, I'm not selling any ads. I'm not going to be any corporate tool."

I'm a really friendly kinda guy, i hang out with all the cliuqes, preps who i try and educate, goths who i try and explain what the anarchy A is when they like carve it into their arms. the skaters, jocks, stoners.....i think the election is today, i did the math and in order to win i need 102 votes, because there are 506 students in our class, and five canidates. I hope i told everyone to vote for me.. :hammer: :che: :castro:
But then if i do lose, i can go and form a small group of guerillas in mexico, then we can get on an old bus named granma, and take the school back. lol

This whole post is such a load of WANK - this isn't fucking politics, this isn't even fucking practise, it's a load of bollocks - it doesnt even deserve to be put with the other set of rubbish ramblings of what is known as shit chat. I havent posted on this site for a while, but I have been checking on it and all I see is a site going down hill - true it may have many members but talking about fucking popularity contests in schools - what a load of shite. This isn't just an attack on this particular post - it is more based at the general shed load of wank that is on this board - it's a fucking disgrace. I remember when this website (the original board) was full of high class political debate that could inspire some real emotion and was fought out to put across a clear point of view. Now it is just a load of people talking shite and moaning about bollocks - joy.
Clearly I'm going to get shite for this - don't care - but I think and know that my feelings are shared by others - just look at the number of older members that have left from the old board.
Shame on you all

I agree with you on the popularity nature of school 'politics' however the content on this site is rather good. Any better discussion boards you could recommend?
Anyway it doesnt matter if you win or lose, you wont be able to institute even the smallest reform in the school system. However you may get to ecide on if the school gets new bus shelters or a coke machine (oh joy  )

10th September 2003, 21:15
And another reason that we have no desire to recommend a board of equal 'quality' is because we have no desire for it to be sodomised and degenerated to the state of this board.
As Kamo states - little over a year ago this site was still a place of quality debate but now it seems to be full of pre-pubescent playing at being the rebel whilst brown nosing one another to give each other a sense of purpose in their otherwise dull lives.
