Salud comrades,
As a member of the Socialist Party of Michigan, I have recently proposed to our membership to stage festivities during May Day 2004. I feel the need for a day of RED PRIDE, similar to the Gay Pride festivities that happen throughout the country. Many reds, of every shade, are independent and alone, if not in the closet. We need a new approach to pulling out like-minded people from their bedrooms, computers and the like.
May Day falls on a Saturday in 2004 which makes it a perfect time to pull people out. I invision a massive parade to start off the day from Hart Plaza up Woodward Ave. to Wayne State Universary, or similar venue. Groups could setup tables, workshops, conferences, music, theater, etc. at Wayne State and other venues in the area. Groups would do things independently, but we'd coordinate them to best appeal to the people.
Maybe we could get Dead Prez, The Coup or other socialist bands to come perform. We can handout red condoms to promote safe sex too!
May Day 2004 must not be like past May Days in Michigan where nothing happens or 100 hardcore folks stand around Hart Plaza singing L'Internationale.
If you live in Michigan and are interested in making May Day 2004 a success in Detroit, or other location in Michigan, buzz me on instant messaging or here.
