A liberal reformist government (made largely from the least reactionary segments of the old regime), backed by the West, comes to power, loses control of the reform process, and a more radical government is able to seize power at the ballot box? If such a scenario were to occur, who would be Caldera (Suleiman?) and who would be Chavez?

If a more radical government seizes power, it will sadly be the Muslim Brotherhood reactionaries. They are the largest social movement in Egypt, and the best organised.

Though no one could predict Chāvez when he first emerged. An Egyptian Chāvez could be an army officer for example. But the political discourse is so different from Venezuela.

I really don't think Egyptian politics are that radical.
