Yes you would, and even if hundreds of your commie friends come and hold signs and chant with you nobody will pay attention or care.

You won't know until you try.

Agreed. Some of us here in the U.S. are trying, we might not be getting far or even noticed but we try. Also the constant U.S.'s attack and brainwashing about our politics certainly doesn't help.

seriosuly though. i would feel confident in betting money over the possibility that at least once a week there is a demonstration in the US that is in some way tied to the working class against oppression, injustice, exploitation, racism, war, and so on.

its all about finding the people.

Local 2 of Unite Here! is picketing all the time in SF.workers are picketing. in fact, last year i saw some workers picketing and it wasnt even in the news. it lasted about a week. i didnt know how to help(i was still learning)

I dont really think that street protesting is really all that effective in the US anymore. The media simply does not cover it. A million people marched against the us-iraq war and did nothing.

It can be alot of fun and empowering. As far as bring about an egyptian-style uprising, no its not going to work.

We can of course, but a key reason, besides the greater prosperity of America, is that the leaders of the organizations of workers, Blacks, Latinos and immigrants here were all tied to the political source of the things we'd be protesting against: the Democratic Party, which was the main party running U.S. capitalism at the time. How could these groupings, especially the labor leaders, who had put so much into electing Democrats and specifically President Obama, then protest the bail-out of the banks? See A Marxist Analysis of the Tea Party (http://www.lrp-cofi.org/statements/teaparty.html). Obama once told a group of bankers: "I'm what's standing between you the pitchforks." Well, the labor bureaucrats and their leftists supporters are largely responsible for the organized workers and oppressed of this country not rising up in protest against these attacks, since any such mass fight in general endangers their position but in this case, would require them critiquing their "partner"--the Democratic Party and the capitalist system.
I skipped a lot in my analysis, but I think that's the rough outline. With another wave of attacks coming here (in NY in particular but across the country as state budgets tank and the ruling class as a whole eyes taking on the public unions), inspired by the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, hopefully we will see something different. That's certainly what we'll be fighting for in TWU Local 100 (against a leftist-backed "reform" administration).

that is where a movement comes in.

you meet people who are active at protests

its partly showing outrage and solidarity, and part meeting organizers ans activists. each person ahs a network they can connect to
if the network grows then as soon as a crisis emerges that touches the nerve of many non-conscious people then it disseminates quickly

it then creates the seed for mass movements.

Yes but you can do this by other means too, for example FnB, freeschools, aint-eviction groups, unions, ect...

A good movement should be based on doing positive and creative things as well protesting and direct action.

I agree with you though.

you are correct. any form of activism builds a network.

i was just justifying street aciton.

I love street actions too, they definitly have thier place and are effective in certian situations. Not by themselves though...
