The global food prices hit a new record in January for the seventh consecutive month, according to the latest edition of Index of FAO on a range of commodities and analyzing monthly variations globally.
"The index averaged 231 points in January, a 3.4 percent increase over December 2010. This is the highest level (both real and nominal) since the survey began FAO food prices in 1990. The prices of all commodity groups controlled strong increases recorded in January, except for meat, which remained unchanged, "the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture.
"The new data show clearly that gave the upward pressure on world food prices," said FAO economist and expert in cereal Abdolreza Abbassian. "These high prices can persist in the coming months. Rising food prices mean a serious concern, especially for low-income food-deficit countries, who may have difficulties in financing their food imports, and for poor families who spend a significant percentage of their income food, "added the analysis.
