I was planning not to vote, and Marxists-Leninists-Maoists, though not dogmatic like anarchists and Left-Communists on this point generally see it as a pointless exercise and certainly most of the time playing parlimentary games is a dangerous detour from building public opinion for armed struggle. However I think it can sometimes register a protest and there are no Communist Parties in Ireland. I certainly would not vote for anyone associated with social-Imperialist Socialist Party which bases its appeal around a creepy reformist populism and a cult of personality around the equally creepy Joe Higgins, so the United Left Alliance will not be getting my vote. Either will the Provisional's Mary Lou Mc Donald who was promoted up the party's ranks over more talented people because she has a nice middle class accent and looks "respectable". However a veteran Provisional Sinn Fein counciller, Christy Burke, who was always at least seen as being on the hard left of the party and has a war record from the 70s is running. He left the Provisionals about two years ago over the fact of their having dropped the commitment to a socialist economy. However he hasnt condemned the GFA and he stayed in them a hell of a long after their dropping of integral Republicanism and socialism. Im considering voting for him as a protest vote but havent made up my mind yet.

Does anyone have any serious thoughts on the matter?
