The US is pushing another bill that will make it possible for the government to cut off all internet access at the flip of a switch.

Relevant because it seems to be the way so called modern "revolutions" are happening (sparked online). In the event material conditions make revolution possible in advanced capitalist nations what measures of control do you think the state would first implement?Granted, I don't think we have the proper class awareness in advanced capitalist nations yet but I think watching what Egypt and other US controlled nations do to control then fool the people back into complacency can be a learning experience for us in the west if anything.
Pulling the plug on the internet in the US would have some pretty harsh economic consequences. It seems that would only add to the worsening material conditions which would most likely be the spark of a mass movement.
