What is China's role in all of this? I've been watching Mubarak's speech live on Al Jazeera, and the news commentators have mentioned China several times. They've been saying that China has blocked the word "Egypt" on the internets. Is China friendly with Mubarak?

not sure if they are "friendly" with Mubarak , but they are scared shitless that the Chinese people may get some ideas from the Egyptians.

The Chinese never met a Washington-backed counter-revolutionary movement in Africa they didn't like and support every democracy-hating right-wing oligarch in Hong Kong (i.e. Liberals, DABHK) and Taiwan (KMT, PFP). Along with Ceaucescu's Romania, they were the only "socialist" nation to maintain friendly relations with the Pinochet-dictatorship, their satellite Maoist parties supported the Islamist reaction in the Afghan Civil War, and they were the 3rd biggest military and financial backer of Nepal's feudalist dictatorship, surpassed only by the Americans and the British. "Socialism" with "Chinese" characteristics makes a mockery out of the former and turns the latter into a racial slur.

The word Egypt is said to be blocked on several social nertwork services. Not on the one that I use (which is the most popular one in China), apparently. Neither is it blocked in the news.

I think it could be an act of self-censorship performed by overly-cautious managers of those sites.

Of course the CPC is scared. It's been on friendly terms with Egypt as well as Tunisia. Realist states never like popular discontent in friendly countries. But I don't think China has a stake in it like the US does.

:lol:That's just hogwash.

I read that even in the US some cities have blocked Al Jezeera.

China is scared that the people will wake up and realize they are being duped by capitalism.

Huh? AFAIK there aren't even that many places that broadcast AJE to begin with.

Buckeye Cable (Toledo, OH)
Burlington Cable (Burlington, VT)
GlobeCast World TV
Link TV (Direct TV, Channel - 375/Dish Network, Channel - 9410)
Washington Cable (Washington, DC)
MHz Networks (Washington, DC)

For channels like Link TV, I believe they have a short 30 min segment of it.

I have Al-Jazeera, English and Arabic, on an international satellite thing I got, and that's really the most reliable way you can get it (I don't have the international satellite for that though), or watch it through the internet (which I've been doing).

If China really is censoring this, it has some pretty interesting implications for the people on RevLeft that still "critcally" support China.
