View Full Version : Is it racist?

While watching one of the older episodes of South Park there was the episode where Cartman gets a million dollars. When Kyle's parents were telling Kyle the story of Job they get to the part where the barbarians kill Job's friends and family but I noticed something. Why were the murderous barbarians Arabic but the Hebrew men were all incredibly white? http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7438/south.jpg

south park has always been notoriously bigoted
conservative bullshit poorly disguised as progressive
as an edgy show that pushes boundaries
while in reality its basically nothing more than hamfisted cocky humor for self indulgent privileged white boys
virtually all jokes made at the expense of those identified as different and less fortunate

I thought the episode where people from the future come to get jobs, was pretty funny, and made some good jokes at the immigration issue the US has.

it's a racist, bigoted, male chauvinist show. replete with individualistic, liberal conservative propaganda delivered in an arbitrarily offensive idiotic testosterone pumped fashion. who else would it be for?
im not surprised to see revlefters become defensive like this when south park and george carlin come under atack. this forum has aways been populated almost exclusively with white priviledged first world testy young men. i just hoped people would be more critical when it came to utter garbage like south park.
to cite one example, that movie they did some years ago called team america included an incredibly ofensive caricature of kim jung il, with every over the top stereotipical trait of east asians.
this schtick of "no political boundaries" that they supposedly go for where in theory everyone is equally made fun of is a ridiculous bourgeois myth. whites do not suffer racial oppression and discrimination. their humor is one more form of attacking the already underprivileged and oppressed.

Nah South Park isn't racist they kill Kenny who happens to be white, if poor. They treat him like shit really. They have alien homosexuals in one episode, so they're not too homophobic.
So suck my Jagon.

I don't really care about southpark. It is racist and sexist from what I've seen and not really all that funny. But George Carlin was fucking hilarious, so [Insert overly defensive insult as a result to white privilege and secret racism here].

Why is George Carlin lumped in together with South Park? I think they are quite opposite. Carlin never did any racist jokes as far as I remember and was always quite left wing. Can you give some examples of Carlin doing the same kind of jokes South Park does?

Nice :thumbup1:
Their Bigger, Longer, and Uncut movie depicted Sadam Hussein as a gay guy in love with Satan. Loving Satan is not bad for Satanics and homosexuality is beautiful for those that identify with it. However, Sadam was also painted as dumbass and was the bad guy of the movie, where as the protagonists were four white boys from rural US.

Though I am curious as to why Dr. Rosenpenis lumped Carlin in with South Park. The man's career spanned decades so there's no doubt you can find some questionable quotes from him but I wouldn't consider them very similar.

Essentially a young, "egdy" libertarian type. Sympathize with the Republican party/conservatism except for the religious fundamentalism and some of the extreme social conservatism that has dominated for the last couple decades. Like to be "politically incorrect"--which is often a codeword for being a racist/sexist/xenophobic/chauvinist bigot.

South Park has some good satire, occassionally. Just when I think that it's in a slump that it'll never come out of, it suprises me with a really brilliant piece of television (such as the "Make Love Not Warcraft" episode). Yes, it does have some negative ideological baggage, but most fictional entertainment that falls out of the "radical leftist" ideology (aka 100% of what's on TV) does, in some way or another.

i would like to point out that the episodes Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride and Follow That Egg! were praised by GLAAD (gay and lesbian alliance against defamation) so i would not be so quick call the show homophobic. Also far from the views held by people on Stormfront that blacks are stupid savages , the 2 main black characters on South Park (Token and Chef) are both shown to be extremely talented and smart while racist whites are portrayed as being stupid and ignorant.

I loved South Park and Family Guy when I was in middle school but South Park just makes me cringe now a days especially since the creators expressed a hatred for Seth McFarlane as if impersonating every kindergarten-style drawn celebrity with the same voice requires so much more talent. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are some of the stupidest people I've ever seen.

yeah south park can be right wing, that's true. But George Carlin wasn't right wing at all. Lol at your lack of sense and inability to comprehend George Carlins humor and your sorry, pathetic attempt to hide behind that lack of sense through accusing people of privledge. George Carlins favorite topic in the world was basically to make fun of the religious right and right wing politics. But whatever, it's easier to accuse him of sending a racist right wing message and make an uninformed ass out of yourself if you ignore the stuff he actually makes jokes about.

It is racist and I think it's racist for a reason. There's a reason why the most racist person on the show, Cartman, is shown as the most ridiculous person there is. I mean really I think the reason for the racism and other bs, is to put it right out in front of your face and to show how stupid it really is.

i never said that carlin was racist or right wing. i compared his act to the kkk because of his fondness for over the top condescending shouting at people from atop a bullshit ivory tower. i also think that like south park and its creators, carlin is a self indulgent affluent white man who like to shit all over everybody because his priviledge makes his immune.
and i think a case certainly could be made for carlin being a bigot. an arrogant "enlightened" first world white man angrily and dogmaticaly attacking billions of people all over the world for their religiosity, etc.

ok you have me on that one , but i still stand by the fact that most of the offensiveness is ment for "shock" value and should be taken as a statement about the creator's views.

Because when Carlin talks about the religious right he's talking about poor pakistanis.
Once again, have you listened to Carlins act? If you have, and you didn't pick up on how he consistently attacks those in power in the US, you don't pay enough attention.
