JOHNNY DEPP BLAST BUSH Sep 4 2003
AMERICAN star Johnny Depp has risked a Hollywood backlash by blasting his homeland and President Bush over the Iraq war.
Depp described Bush as a "liar" and said America was a "dumb" country during a promotional trip to Germany for his new film Pirates of the Caribbean.
His comments will upset the generally ultra conservative movie bosses but Depp said he did not plan to even live in the USA while Bush was in power. He described the president's administration as "idiots".
The 40-year-old actor told Stern magazine: "The fact they renamed French Fries Freedom Fries is proof.
"Just look at our president - unbelievable. In Iraq it was all about business, about money. He is one of the worst liars."
Depp called the US a "dumb, aggressive puppy" and said he was happier in France with his wife, singer Vanessa Paradis, and their two children. But one movie insider warned: "Hollywood is a conservative town. It will be interesting to see where his values lie when the pay cheques stop coming in."
Anti-war actor Tim Robbins has had promotions cancelled in America since he spoke out. And actress Margot Kidder also found her career in freefall after publicly opposing the first Gulf War

Legends,
We all know about U.S. strategy. All goes about money, and as Johnny Deep did is just a proof that there is a lot of intelectual as other public figures that criticize US strategy. The point is that many are not brave enough to make their thoughts public and give a hard kick in the public opinion.
Hopefully there will be more and more Americans making their opinion public, afterall is the only way to increase pressure on the American government, and if US ignores the public opinion then is the confirmation that US lives in a Fascist regime.
About Bush we all know that is not so intelegent, but some dangerous people are behind him and we cannot see their faces.

Thats very true, Depp has made this public as I got that from a newspaper, but then again it was a UK paper.
You cant go anymore Public than Michael Moore though, I just finished reading Stupid White Men, and he doesnt half lay into the Bush Administration.

Depp was good as Hunter Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I do not know much of his other work...

That movie insider is a dumb fuck then. Depp doesn't even take Hollywood roles that often. Half of hollywood came out against the war, if the studios shunned everyone who was against the war then we'd only have Arnie, Charlton Heston and Tom Arnold left.

and Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis... most actors in Hollywood seem fairly liberal, but all of the macho action movie stars seem to be reactionary... maybe that is part of what draws them into such acting in such roles...

Oh, they are both past it anyway. Willis hasn't had a hit in years and Stallones a joke.

Johnny's amazing in Edward Scissorhands, I really recommend watching that film.
You know what? I'd really love to see him in a film with Ms Jolie, they'd be awesome. Maybe they've already been in a film together, please tell me if that's the case.

Depp is cool in fear and loathing in las vegas, blow and donnie brasco, those are the only movies i've seen with him in it, I thought he was a good actor, but now, I found out he's also political correct, so I like him even more!
