Reading that gave me a contravertial notion; Ok we know George Clooney isn't Hispanic and I dont particularly rate him as an actor but fuck me he looks like Che...Or is it just me?
I prefer Del Toro as an actor, his method work on "Fear and loathing in las vegas" was blinding and I know he will do Che justice, he has something of Che about him but Clooney is a dead ringer....

Could that be the hispanic touch?
Thought Antonio Banderas playing Che in Evita was an uncanny resemblance....apart from singing all over the place that is!!!!!

Yeah Banderas would be OK..Gabriel Garcia Bernal who will play him in the motorcycle diaries is a great actor but too young for the other movie....I'm thinking the motorcycle diaries will be better, Mexican and Argentinian stars, Brazilian director....
I like most of Soderburgh's stuff but he has a tendancy for pretention.. As does Malick though I admired the thin red line very much.....They both adhere to a very constrained, subtle style of direction which may or may not suit this subject....I fear these films....

Clooney doesn't look like Che at all.. he doesn't look righteous or justice. He lacks the charisma in acting Che~ he looks too cappie to act as Che. Hell No!
Is Del Toro a good choice too?

I can't watch Benicio Del Toro in any role, without laghing my ass off everytime he makes a really serious face. It always reminds me of Fear and Loathing.
Does anyone else have this affliction?

i didn't know where to put this but i figured the film was a bio so i choose history.
i just found out that Benicio del toro just started filming for a Che pic based on the anderson biography. there has been talk of the film for awhile but it was put off in pre-production for awhile.
i'm really looking forward to it. In my mind Del Toro is the best actor in america right now and i respect all of his work and his dedication. with him as the lead role i think we're all asured that this won't be some bullshit hollywood blockbuster or silly dramatization (like Fidel on showtime, what a leaking deutch bag that was). I remember a lot of people here being opposed to the idea, are you still. I think it'll introduce a lot of new people to him, which can't be a bad thing. anyway i'll be interested to see how many hundreds of new people we get on this site after that film. always good to get new blood true?

Agreed, Alejandro.
The only people who would oppose such a thing would be people who think they're really "indie" and "different" and "unique" because they know and like Che. If a film were to come out, like you say, many more people would become interested in Che and that takes the "indie" thing out of it.
People who oppose it, basically, are people who want to be cool.
So long as the film is a good, honest one, then I think it will be a good idea. Highlighting Che's plight, highlighting Socialism's plight and highlighting the brutality of imperialism as well as attracting many more people to the great character of "The Heroic Guerilla"

I also agree with this idea. If this movie turn out good it would be great for both this site and the reputation of socialism as a whole. I agree with that people who oppose to this idea should realy have their arguments ready, since nothing is better than spotlight!

Highlighting Che's plight, highlighting Socialism's plight and highlighting the brutality of imperialism ...
And you honestly think a film produced in the land of imperialism will be 'highlighting the brutality of imperialism' ... ?
I don't think so, mate.

I am really looking forward to this movie, not just because I very fond of Che Guevara, and pretty much any acting work done by my favourite actor benicio del toro (whom i think is a great choice to play Che) but because I want to see how well the movie will stay on track. Seeing as how the Gov't is starting to throw people in jail for being left wing (the sad story of Sherman Austin) I am somehow doubtful that it will stay to the truth. But, knowing that Del Toro is on board to play Che, I remain optamistic that he (Del toro) would not want to make a movie about Che that would show Che the way the right-wingers would like him to be dipicted.

Well, I'm a major fan of Del Toro, and I think he does have many similarities to Che in appearance. And Del Toro has a real knack for adapting different body language in all his roles (just look at Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, way of the Gun, The pledge, The usual suspects...need i go on? :P) so he may do a good job of imitating che's voice and movement. Anyway, i'm looking forward to seeing all of those movies (the ones written about in that link)

I don't think George Clonney is good for any role in a Che film, exept maybee as Kennedy......... It sucks already....
Gael Garcia made a low budget tele movie (in spanish) about Che, my prima liked it, but she wears some many Che faces..... I didn't like the tele movie......
