View Full Version : Tetris: Most Important Thing About the USSR?

Think about it, now that the USSR is gone, it's not likely to have an increasing impact on tomorrows youth; it's over and done with, to talk about what it was or how things could have changed or why it didn't work is all beating a dead horse with the butt of your Kalashnikov. But TETRIS will be addictive, it will be played by people yet to come, people who will be born after all us are dead and all those in the former USSR are dead and gone. It will likely be something that outlives us all.

And while I do not know if it is a good thing or a bad thing (too early to tell?) I believe that Tetris will be the one thing the USSR truly left to the world. While it may not be an ideological video game it certainly is playable by a lot of people, young and old, black or white, poor or rich, man or woman. So it's kinda egalitarian. Tetris has many clones and spin offs, so it's almost like everyone owns it. It's downloadable for free online, so it's kinda post-scarcity (no one should ever be without it :p) and of course TETRIS is a 'revolution' in gaming for the time it was made.

I'm not trying to troll here, I'm not trying to make you feel bad about being outlived and outloved by a game, I'm just trying to state some facts about this and see how others feel. The most important thing about the USSR and how it will have an impact is Tetris.

Please don't ban me.

lol I thought this woulda been a hot topic:blushing:

I agree though. Tetris is one of the most revolutionary games of the 20th century. I don't know about having more of an impact though, but it definitely produced more happy feelings :)

Revolutionary or not, tetris is nostalgic as fuck.

Games were simple and fun. And if it wasn't working, all you had to do was blow into the cartridge.

Ah, the good old days.
