Okay, I'm not going to do a whole thing on all of my beliefs, I may post more if this topic does pick up debate. But I was just wondering if my vision for an American Foreign policy is the same as others here. I'm espescially interested in seeing the opinions of Chairman Mao and Elijah Craig.

Anyways, if I were given the chance to decide the US's foreign policies I'd make some big changes. First and foremost I'd work towards normalizing relations with Cuba, a lift of the embargo and a possible economic partnership. When I say partnership I don't mean screw Cuba over, I mean actually partake in business with Cuba, send them medical supplies and what not for sugar, cigars, and whatever else they have.

I'd pull the US out of this civil war in Colombia. No more poison, no more bombing, nothing. Just let them go. I would attempt to find a liveable peace for both sides, but wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Does anybody remember this little thing called the Marshall Plan? I sure you all do, but it seems Washington doesn't. I think we should apply Marshall Plan like aid to the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan, Iraq, and any other country that really needs it. It would be one way to help start repairing the damage we've caused to these areas, it would also help our economy buy producing more goods and whatnot. It could also defang some of these fundamentalist assholes like the Mullahs. If the US is handing out food right an left and helping rebuild their country they're not going to have their great Satan. In fact, it could take away from the Anti-Americanism. It'll also calm some of the more radical fundamentalists down. They'll still have the Jews but I'll get to that.

We need to buy the weapons of mass destruction off of the people selling them. For God sake do it! And don't turn around and give the salesman the chair, odds are the sales person has a family they're trying to feed. Just buy the weapons and destroy them. I don't see a nuclear weapon free world in the near future (sadly), but we can take care of these loose weapons that could fall in the hands of guys like bin-Laden.

Tell Sharon to fuck off! Yes, it's time we put that bastard in his place. The first thing we do is pull his funding, pull our support, and leave his ass. If he still continues to act like a savage with the Palestineans, the threaten to try to indict him for war crimes and let him know he can't be Prime Minister forever. But it won't go that far, he's smart enough to know that without us he's sitting on a pile of rubble. Then we can finally get back to the progress we made with Yitzhack Rabin. I hope...

That's all I can think of at the moment. I don't think it would be total improvement and I haven't gotten anywhere NEAR an ideal foreign policy but I'll add more later. So, thoughts?

Here is an interview section from William Blum which is similar to this piece you just wrote:

On the first day, I would extend an apology to all orphans and widows and victims of U.S. foreign policy.
On the second day, I would announce that we won't intervene anywhere else.
On the third day, I'd tell Israel, "your country is not the 51st state but a foreign country," and then reduce the military budget 90 percent and pay reparations to all families in the world destroyed by U.S. foreign policy.
On the fourth day, I would be assassinated.

All of that is good, and should be done; but it is not a possibility under capitalism. Revolution is the only way to accomplish these thigns. And more.

Alright, later tonight I'm going to add more to this so that it may spark up a debate or something, I really should be studying now.

What debate, all that uve said is very true, all the crimes you try and retract thru that are obviously just manifestations of US imperilaism, which is through one way or another necessary because of your economic system; capitalism. I dont think America could afford its redemption, neither would it survive it. Taking someones political idenity and belittleing it through paying reparations is one thing, taking someones bank account balance or destroying their means of income (their economic system based on raping foreign economies)(no matter how evil it is) is quiet another, something that a system could never bare to inflict on itself (because that is what would happen without America's imperialism). Thats why im sure America will never become socialist from an internal force, its quiet easy to get the peasants to revolt comnpared to getting the barrons to willing divide their own land.

Oh and something else you can do to add to your hypothetical list. Stop all American corperations that trade internationaly to pay any money to foreign government personal or parties- cause thats really killing us down here in South Africa!

I would have to add the total end or total recontruction (i can't think of another word at the moment) of NAFTA and having the USA exit the WTO. NAFTA only allows large corperations to take advantage of Latin America with no limits on environmental abuse, human rights abuse, and the damnification on the population. Tariffs and tax breaks for these huge corporations have also got to stop....
