Hey, I decided to post this hear as it is 'taking action'.

It does look like Egypt will experience a revolution, and I'm interested to know if anyone is thinking about going to egypt just to be a part of it?

Thanks.

only a cop would come up with such a lame username and think it would be something that we would like.

And only a cop would be oblivious to the fact that most (if not all of us) are pretty low down on the income chain.

Same place you get the forms to declare yourself a strong leftist mercenary.

But in all seriousness OP, have you thought that plan of action through?

They're probably US. Only our feds would do something so mind numbingly stupid.:hammersickle::che::hammersickle:

It's someone using a disposable email account with an Australian IP address. Interestingly, they have two other accounts on here which both have about ten posts each. I think it's a sockpuppet and someone's trying to be funny.

I seriously doubt any organized law enforcement agencies care one way or another about what we do or say on here.

Speaking personally, no. I doubt I'd be wanted. I'd be another body that didn't truly understand the reasons for the unrest. Revolutions need revolutionaries that understand the reasons for the situation. Warm bodies are good, but it'd be better to have people around with a vested interest.

Organized law enforcement cares about the books I order or check out of libraries, about the websites I visit and the terms I type into Google - why shouldn't they care about what I write on RevLeft?

They want the opportunity to see what you search or check out, they dont have the manpower or frankly the interest to monitor you on a daily basis.

At best, you'd be a number on a page.

People GREATLY over-estimate law enforcement's use of it's time.

The original poster is not a cop,

Why?

Because cops aren't really interested in entrapping westerners into going to egypt because there is utterly nothing productive a non-arabic-speaking westerner with no local contacts could do, there are no clearly organized groups, and westerners going to egypt is not a problem for them (they don't even characterize protesters as terrorists etc).

Cops are way more inclined to entrap people into going to Pakistan and Afghanistan and to a lesser extent Iraq were western jihadis have traveled, or to Palestine where there are existing networks between groups in Palestine and groups in the west.

Moreover this just isn't how police entrapment normally works - they approach people that they have already specifically identified or they enter groups or they organize front groups or they intervene into something existing they don't send out a speculative "anyone thinking of doing this totally legal thing on a speculative level that wouldn't lead to an arrest?"

So again I'm asking for security culture that makes sense. Clearly the original poster is someone who just hasn't thought it out (since there is nothing a non-Egyptian could usefully do by going to Egypt)./

Well..I think its like the west supporting Zionism after WWII....

You know they respect us,...but rather have us live in another country ;);)

Or maybe its more sinister...maybe they know of impending violence from the army and want to get rid of us. Perhaps they are wiling to even pay for the trip

You really think so? Well I am sorry...but that is somewhat naive...

Not only do many, many Egyptians speak English. But there is also the international aspect of communism and socialism.

Do you honestly think law enforcement has the manpower or resources to be reading through 30 pages of ideological debate threads while taking notes?

Not for the hell of it, no. But for one reason or another they might trace down an individual poster's post history. I mean, I'm not saying it necessarily happens, but I don't know what everyone else is involved in, and I know that some states are quite quick to issue massive investigations on the whim of a suspicion, so I can imagine that RevLeft might, at certain times, be looked at for one or another reason.

Hardly a reason to panic and delete all your posts, hardly a reason to never post again, but also something that shouldn't be ruled out per se.

What could any of us do and why should we? This isn't Spain '36 if it was I'm sure a lot of us would go but they're just demonstrating for more democracy not a revolutionary change towards socialism. The only thing I can think of that would be helpful would be to help whatever leftist groups that they have there to get a bit more support. From what I've heard of the Egyptian left it's almost non-existent.

Sorry if that sounds a little harsh but I don't get all excited over a country's middle class fighting for a slightly less oppressive system.
