Hello! I've considered myself a Marxist for going on a decade now, but it's only lately that I've felt the urge to get more involved with the Leftist community at large. I've been getting more and more serious about the movement over the past few years, and now I'm looking to take the leap and join a party or organization of some kind -- but of course now I'm faced with the agony of choice.

I describe myself as a Marxist-Leninist not because I uncritically accept everything which has been done in the name of it, but simply because I consider Marx, Engels, and Lenin the towering authors and leaders who have most helped to shape my views. Other figures like Stalin, Mao, Hoxha, etc., are not particularly relevant to my Communism.

As you'll guess from the topic, I live in Kansas City. It's a notoriously conservative area, but nevertheless we have a fine labor tradition, and I think there are probably a lot more Communists here than one would think. That said, there is virtually no visible, organized presence in the form of parties, organizations, or even discussion groups.

Anyway, my main goal right now is finding my way through the morass of different and ever-splitting Marxist groups in the USA. Any advice comrades on this forum may have is appreciated.

Kansas or Missouri?

Kansas. It's a bit of an academic distinction, though, since I live less than a mile from the border.

Great Plains comrades, unite!
Welcome. Glad to have you on board. I grew up (kind of) near KC; I consider it a 2nd or 3rd home :) I swear by KC Masterpiece to this day!
Glad to hear about the scene. Most of the times when I was down in KC (both states) was when I was younger and not politically aware. I would love to go back sometime soon. Worlds of Fun was super packed last time :crying:
