Maybe take it back to the shop tomorrow? I'm not sure whether they'd give you a refund or not though.

Try to see if you can get a refund and write to the company stating that your food doesn't last as long as you promise it does.

Why not just put in the water and cook it again? It probably won't make you ill, but it probably won't taste that great.

Not sure that is the best idea....

The store will most likely refund you. They will look at you a little weird, and they might even think your rippin them off, but they will usally just tell you to go get another one.

I once bought a box of popsicles, and realized they had "expired" 7 months earlier. I thought they were suppose to look that color, whoops. Tasted nice though.

Uh, you do realize that the extra 1 minute is needed to kill off the risotto virus? It isn't normally lethal except to infants, the elderly, and people with a compromised immune system.

...in theory risotto if it contains meat or cheese could totally make you sick but in practice, my guess is that its been vacuum sealed and/or precooked making it unlikely to carry anything to make you sick.

Er, risotto virus? Firstly, are you talking about something specific, and secondly, I'm pretty cure that viruses, being simpler entities that aren't really alive, can't be destroyed easily by heating.

Eh, it has fucking mould in it. That indicates either unhygienic preperation or shoddy packaging. I'd be wanting a refund and/or a replacement.

I think she was joking.

Ready meals are never that cheap where I live, unless I'm looking in the wrong places. If I make a meal for myself, I just make a big batch of it and freeze portions. Cheaper and healthier than buying pre-made crap.

I'm no scientist, but viruses are basically large packets of protein with RNA or DNA in them, as you know. Couldn't heat just deform the protein sequences, thereby literally breaking the thing into smaller, harmless pieces?

But yeah, risotto virus? There are some foods that naturally come with certain bacteria (honey is the first that comes to mind), but certain viruses?

This reply was totally worth my post.

First, I thought it would be overwhelmingly obvious that I was joking since 1. I directly contradicted myself by saying that he wouldn't get sick in the next paragraph (thus revealing the suggestion that he could get sick in the first paragraph, to be a joke and 2. given that risotto is just rice in broth with ingredients added, it couldn't possibly have its own virus/...But I guess not...

Second, of course viruses can be destroyed by heating (generally much more easily than bacteria can be), their structures are destroyed with sufficient heat just like those of bacteria and eukaryotes - why do you think people run fevers when they have viral infections?

Eh, it has fucking mould in it. That indicates either unhygienic preperation or shoddy packaging. I'd be wanting a refund and/or a replacement. If you read his post, it was actually the sainsbury chicken ready meal that had the mold, which he didn't eat, not the uncle ben's risotto, which he ate and worried about over not heating it for the full 3 minutes

I'm not sure why I'm explaining the factual background of my obvious joke, but of course there are food borne viruses - hepatitis A and norovirus are well known examples.
