There's actually quite a bit going on in Portland.

It's great to see that worker-owned businesses are alive and well. They get bonus points for being vegan.:D
Is this in Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon?

Portland Oregon. I am pretty sure they actually have the building now. They run I.W.W. training sessions Saturdays if anyone in the area is interested in learning how the I.W.W. organizes.
Speaking of I.W.W. and the "portland movement" Portland Socialists are currently in Solidarity with the I.W.W. in picketing Janus Youth Programs.

Portland and Seattle are the only two places in the USA I would really fancy visiting. It would deny me the oportunity to kick Mickey Mouse in the butt, but I think I could live with that lol

Update on Portland Activism:
- as of Feb. 28 2011
IWW Protests Janus Youth Program:
Into its fourth week, seeking greater Solidarity. Come on by if you are in the Area, from 3 - 5pm. I've been there, it's great. Video of Picketers here: http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2011/02/406548.shtml
Can't get out into the area? Let Dennis Morrow know you support the workers and don’t think they should lose this peer review panel, and be forced to have mandatory arbitration, an unaffordable expensive alternative. Call his assistant and leave a message at: 503-542-4608.
Anarchists Fuck shit up:
At it again, our Anarchist Comrades getting into some propaganda by deed.

Banner hung from Busy Bridge in Solidarity with Seattle Comrades:
I guess an anti police banner was hung from a busy street (downtown I believe?)

Wisconsin Solidarity Rally
Was there with some 20 - 40 I.W.W. comrades (some of whom were from Madison Wisconsin). I've heard some different head counts between 850 - 1000, most of whom were dedicated Union members.

(If look good enough you can see me with a red flag ;))
There were other rallies in Salem and in Southern Oregon as well.

From who I've talked to, Red and Black is good stuff. They've been mentioned on here before, because IIRC, a cop was kicked out of there recently.... Just read the article, yup! I've heard their food and coffee is excellent.

A group of wobblies just about pushed me off the ledge in their attempt to mug up for a photograph. I was then immediately a fan as they blocked the wind and made things warmer. It was what, 25 degrees with horrible wind?

I wish they would have put the temperature on the flier, then I would have reconsidered what I was wearing. It was miserable weather.

Paulappaul

Yes Seattle is a hot spot for Worker owned businesses. What pops up in my mind right now is, Left Bank Books (http://www.leftbankbooks.com/).

I first heard about the place in a local street paper and was excited to go but when I finally found it it was closed. And it was the last day we were spending in seattle that trip too.
What is the place like inside?

It's very nice, better then the radical bookstores in Portland (who try to copy the Left Bank feel).

In the first episode they go into a radical bookstore, which resembles Laughing Horse Books and Red and Black Cafe haha.
