Any thoughts on President Obama's State of the Union address and how it impacts leftist ideologies?

He has moved more to the center, so I would say that this won't promote the left (not like the political climate recently has either). Though I would say that the only thing that I really agreed with is his push for education and for raising taxes for the highest 2%.

I listened for a while, it really wasn't anything unexpected. Some Kennedy era rhetoric. We beat the Soviet in the space race. We need more science. We need more science. We should all hold hands and work together (let us set aside the differences between Republican and Democrat so that we can exploit the working class more efficiently). Let the government take care of some things, and of course capitalism is fine.

I don't really think that it impacts the left. Empty rhetoric, basically, like all capitalist presidents.

It was a predictable shift to the American center, complete with promises of corporate tax cuts and a review of the mediocre system of economic regulation already in place. He avoided Afghanistan and Iraq more or less, and didn't even touch on the state of the military budget when talking about domestic budget cuts. The President did include a good bit of rhetoric tailored towards scientific and economic innovation, but in combination with promises for excessive budget cuts it was subdued. Rachel Maddow summed it up nicely by calling his speech "A love letter to free enterprise", or something along those lines. Though given the political environment which he was faced with, I can't say I expected much beyond that.

Apart from the expected manifesto of austerity, he added something that is quite ridiculous. He called for all US college campuses to allow military recruiters and the ROTC full access.

Why did you even watch? It's not like anything is going to change in this government.
