The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine marked the ninth anniversary of the abduction of its General Secretary, Comrade Ahmad Sa'adat, by the Palestinian Authority security apparatus, releasing a statement denouncing the massive crime that was committed against him and the entire Palestinian nation. Comrade Sa'adat was abducted on January 15, 2002. In the statement, the PFLP condemned the utterly unjustified abduction, and the entire policy of detention, arrest, or kidnapping of Palestinian freedom fighters as a dangerous and damaging policy that comes in the context of security cooperation with the occupation.
In the statement, released by the Front's Political Bureau on January 19, 2011, the PFLP said that the Palestinian Authority should have celebrated Sa'adat and his comrades rather than arresting them, because they defended the freedom and integrity of their people, through the execution of the extremist racist Zionist tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi in direct response to the assassination of prior PFLP General Secretary Comrade Abu Ali Mustafa by the Israeli military.
Comrade Sa'adat's kidnapping led to him being held in Jericho prison, and thereby directly to his arrest and abduction by the Zionist occupation forces after they stormed the prison in 2006.
The PFLP statement reiterated that the PA's security policies of collaboration with the occupation show utter disregard for Palestinian human rights, flouting international laws and conventions and the Geneva Conventions, which affirm the legitimate right of occupied people to resist invaders and occupiers.
Furthermore, the Front warned that it is keeping a close eye to protecting the life of Comrade Sa'adat, noting that Zionist security authorities and the Israeli Prison Service are attempting to undermine his psychological stability and health through prolonged solitary confinement and isolation. It noted that the Israeli occupier is doing this in order to prevent him from renewing his role as a leader of the prisoners' movement and are attempting to target his life through a process of slow death.
The statement recalled the various abuses that Sa'adat has been subjected to in Zionist jails, including neglect of his health, psychological torture, prevention of family visits under the justification that he poses a threat to the occupier. They recognize that Sa'adat's spirit, militancy and vigorous struggle continues to deny the authority of the occupiers and invaders, and that he continues to resist despite the cruel conditions of his confinement. Comrade Sa'adat is a living example of the will to struggle, the will to live, and the will for freedom in the face of the occupier. Comrade Sa'adat has been arrested 8 times by the Zionists and has spent nearly 12 years in their prisons and not once has his determination wavered or his will weakened.
The PFLP called upon community organizations, legal associations, and progressive and democratic movements in the world to act in solidarity with Comrade Sa'adat and his fellow prisoners in the jails of the occupation, and to build a strong solidarity movement with the prisoners. Furthermore, it noted that it is the duty of all Palestinians and Arabs to give a voice to the prisoners and to reject all forms of security cooperation with the occupiers.
