Awesome documentary, http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/south-of-the-border/, goes over a lot of the new leftist leaders and leftist social movements in South America, in Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, Ecuador, Brazil and then Cuba.

SOme of my favorate bits, when Chavez points at a corn silo and says "thats where we are making atomic bombs for Iran."

Also when the first lady of Argentina points out the hypocricy of Europeans and Americans saying that Chavez is "exporting bolivarianism."

And also points out that it was privatization, the market, and free trade that ruined the country, i.e. IMF policy.

Also when lula correctly points out "this is the first time in history when poor people are being treated like human beings."

I also love the Ecuadorian presidents responce to why he's kicking out the US military, "If they let us build a base in Maimi then they can keep one her."

I think Americans can learn a lot about democracy and economic and social progress from South America, Brazil, paid off all its debt, and is in a surplus, all these countries have significantly reduced poverty, significantly increased economic development, significantly strengthened the democratic process, and participatory democracy, significantly helped the poor and indigenous peoples.

The US has a lot to learn from the south :), while its people continue to suffer exploitation and poverty, and live in a sham of a democracy.

(I'm not saying they are better off in the SOuth, I'm saying the South has made major improvements, while the US has gone down down down hill for a long time now.)

Socialism and Democracy works. Market tyrannies do not.

My favorite part is where they interviewed Bob Avakian wearing a sombrero.

That was a very interesting documentary.

As this sorts of things often do they've made me feel more confident about the future of the Left. Now I should go elsewhere to have some of that hope crushed. :p
