It would be good (I think) to organize these movies by genre as well.

30 Frames a Second is a good documentary of the Seattle WTO protests from the perspective of an independent photojournalist in the midst of it all.

Ideas for genres or other sorts of categories? I'm not quite sure how to set that up...

Another good one on the Seattle protests is called "This Is What Democracy Looks Like".

Another good one on the Seattle protests is called "This Is What Democracy Looks Like".
Also Battle in Seattle about the same thing i'm guessing

Again, proper database > list.

Well for one you can easily sort out the "documentaries" into a separate genre. From there it's a matter of deciding if the other films are action, comedy, drama, historical, etc. What ever criteria you think is appropriate. Might be helpful for those who may want a comedy or documentary and not have to wiki each one to see what it is.

At the moment, to me at least, it just seems like a big list that is hard to shift through. I'd suggest the same routine for the rest of your lists.

Again, proper database > list.

I prefer what The Idler recommend, using HUNCH. I'm sure you took a lot of time to create this and I'm grateful for the movie and books thread, but I just look at it and see a big list.

I'm not privy on how to make this "database." Help? :(

Edit: my post was sort of a joke that no one got.

Easiest way is to join hunch (http://www.hunch.com) then go to More then Create topic if there isn't already a topic. Then More then Add Result or Add Question.

There are no left wing films made (nor to be made) under capitalism. The closest ones are made in the Soviet Union and just compare those films with films made in capitalist societies to see how their philosophies differ.

L'Armee du Crime aka Army of Crime. Saw it last year, it's about the French Resistance, or at least a piece of it.

Great list, CI. I could quibble and push my objections, etc. I suggest that movies that begin with "the" and "a" should be alphabetized by their second word.

1984 is left themed movie? What is definition of "left-theme"?

Here are films that I think have 'left leaning' themes (and which I also like):

Body of Lies (2008).
City of God (2002).
Green Zone (2010).
Michael Clayton (2007).
State of Play (2009).
Syriana (2005).
The Edukators (2004).

The Wind That Shakes The Barley

It's a Ken Loach film about Irish freedom fighters. Pretty much anything by Ken Loach can be on this list tbh. I see Land and Freedom already is, one of my favourite films of all time, everyone should see it.

The dogme film, Festen, has some interesting anti-patriarchal themes. (Can't post an IMDB because I don't have enough posts.)

The majority of movies made have been left-themed movies. The list could easily be expanded to include thousands of movies. Perhaps socialist-themed movies would be more appropriate.
Sidney Lumet, who died yesterday at the age of 86, made a number of progressive films, including, "12 Angry Men," "Fail Safe," "Network," "Serpico," "The Fugitive Kind," "Dog Day Afternoon," "Daniel," and "the Verdict"
