Okay, this is going to sound weird and probably insignificant, but I'm really curious to know what the fuck my body is doing.

Every single morning, when I wake up, I have a terrible taste in my mouth. It makes my breath smell awful, it tastes hideous, and it even gives me a stomach ache. There's usually a film of some kind on the inside of my mouth that won't go away unless I gargle and spit with something abrasive like salt water or mouth wash. The bad breath is not pleasant for the woman I share my bed with (REALLY discourages spontaneous morning sex), the taste is irritating, but the stomach ache it causes is actually starting to disrupt the quality of my sleep. Sometimes I'll wake up several hours early with a nasty stomach ache and be forced to gargle with mouthwash to get rid of the taste (the stomach ache clears shortly after), and at that point I'm wide awake, until mid-day hits and I'm tired again.

I don't know what the hell causes this, and I've tried a few things just based off of guessing. I've tried brushing my teeth more before bed, not brushing before bed, eating just before bed, not eating just before bed, and pounding my head against the wall until my eyes bleed. (Okay, not that.) Does anyone have any idea what this is, why it's happening, and how I can stop it?

I'm not a doctor etc...

But it sounds like the taste isn't causing your stomach ache, but your stomach ache is causing the taste: both symptoms are found in acid reflux disease/GERD

I would try Prilosec OTC. You can also google for dietary and lifestyle changes to fix it.

I am just going to assume given that you're asking here that you either don't want to see a doctor or can't afford to see one but if Prilosec OTC doesn't work then I wouldn't know what to suggest except seeing a doctor.

Do you have any teeth problems like sensitivity or large amount of cavities? The reason I ask is because that is indicative of chronic acid reflux (something I have and have been taking prescription medication for 8 or 9 years). What happens is the acid comes into your mouth while you are sleeping (which can cause bad breath in the morning) and wears down the enamel on your teeth. I brush my teeth multiple times per day, don't eat all that much sugar, yet I've had probably about 20 cavities filled or so plus one root canal (I'm 19). Generally that is only the case though if it's been an ongoing problem for years.

Is it a burning in your stomach? How long has it been going on for? If it is acid reflux and it's been going on for a long time, I suggest you go to a gastroenterologist because it can cause esophageal problems (I get an endoscopy every 5 years).

The previous posters gave some good info. I sometimes experience something kind of similar but not on that level..just kind of like a funny feeling in my mouth, some type of film, and congestion. It sucks but goes away when I brush my teeth and stuff in the morning.
