Why does socialism keep screwing itself over in everywhere except for (to a degree) Cuba?

It always degrades into a dictatorship with long lines and shoddy elections. Why does this happen? And what proof have we that the next new socialist nation won't have the same problems?

When you consider that 'socialism' has only even been attempted a very small number of times, and that capatilism has had since the industrial revolution to develop, this is very unsuprising. It also seems to me that you have been the victim of the constant bullshit arguments put for by ignorant fools who say that "it's against human nature". There is only one reason why socialism in cuba has not worked to it's full potential is capitalist interference. Socalism and Communism are the inevitable direction of society, i wouldn't be to worried about past experiences with totalitarian and buerocratic takeovers.

There has to be establishments in an area were capitalism is not a threat. Were socialism is the best answer and the people in the area would look to it as a solution. In Africa for an example there is poor education and an outbreak of aids. People are poor and starving. Socialism will be looked as a solution to their poor living conditions and many more problems. Many capitalist countries have been avoiding many countries in this region so to start a movement makes sense in this region. There is a former basketball player that lives in my town and is very tall. I forgot his name but its something like Matom Bowl but he’s been working to spread awareness about the conditions there because the government isn’t. That’s why he came to my school last year to talk about the problems that are in Sudan (I think) and how there is very little effort from the government to help countries like it. If there was more international awareness in Africa then there would be more people getting help and countries getting better. We saw in Black Hawk Down how there are a lot people that can hate America in some of these parts. This can be a key to establishing socialism. We get the people to see are point of view and then we begin educating the people. Once a government is established we can then help the people. But this wont come easy on the count that there would need to be a overthrowing of the government to make way for a socialism. So best way to make socialism work is form relationships with people were the strong capitalist countries are hated.

I think the problem are those dictators, who take power until they die. That's against the basci idea of socialism in any aspect. As there's no democracy there arent many changes that can help the economy and the system doesnt change according to the situation.
Also there have been few attemps compared to capitalism.

The specific details in each country are different, of course, but if you want the "quick & dirty" answer...

Countries can't "become" socialist or communist until they have passed through capitalism. Any attempt to "leap over" the capitalist stage just ends up falling short (or "failing" as you say) and landing the country in capitalism...where it historically belongs.

I think Marx has been justified by history: communism can only happen as a result of proletarian revolution in advanced capitalist countries.

The dictatorships and poverty that you mention, by the way, were once commonplace in the advanced capitalist countries...a long time ago.

If you think Stalin's Russia or Mao's China were pretty grim places to live (they were), check out England under Queen Victoria or France under Napoleon III.

The transition to modern capitalism is a pretty horrible process...regardless of the color of the flags.

The "communist" elite become a new ruling class, and will preserve their power by any means nessecary.
