I read years ago that Lenin contributed a whole host of phrases into the English language. Unfortunately, the only one I can remember is "throwing the baby out with the bath water" which I think was from The State and Revolution. But it got me to thinking, how many phrases did communism contribute? I'm sure Mao came up with "big fish eating little fish" and Stalin "can't make an omelette without breaking eggs". Well, I'm not sure about the last one. Can you think of any others?

The Russian suffix -nik found its way into English, Yiddish, Hebrew, and a few other languages with the prominence of Russian via the Soviet Union. This is probably the best known one.

Hebrew examples that I can think of: Likkudnik, Kibbutznik, Zephnik
English examples: beatnik

I was thinking more along the lines of communist literature. But I agree that -nik has permeated a lot of language circles.
