Maoist posters at Metro stations, cops red-faced

KOLKATA: Maoist posters and a banner were found at several places in the city, including the walls of Chandni Chowk and Central Metro stations early on Tuesday. An embarrassed city police couldnt explain how the posters were pasted within metres of police kiosks.
This is the second time in about a month that Maoists activists or sympathizers have given the police a rude wake-up call. Earlier, after the arrest of CPI (Maoist) state secretary Sudeep Chongdar alias Kanchan, posters were found at Nandan and The Academy of the Fine Arts, the citys culture hub and a daily after-work destination of the chief minister.
The handwritten posters found on Tuesday warn that the culprits of the Netai killings will be punished in their peoples court: Netai gonohatyay jukto harmader gana adalate bichar kora hobe.
Other posters demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners, including Maoist leaders. There was even a banner tied to the railings near Chandni Chowk Metro station, criticizing the Congress-led UPA government for corruption and the hike in prices of essential commodities. Policemen from Bowbazar removed the posters and banner around 6am, half an hour after they were spotted by residents. By then hundreds had seen them.
The Special Task Force Kolkata Polices anti-terrorist unit has started a probe to identify the people who put up the posters. But senior police officers could not explain how the Maoist activists or sympathizers dodged police. There is a police kiosk close to the spot. But the policemen on duty could not notice them, admitted an police officer.
Even in last months incident, the Maoist activists had not only dodged police but also the CCTV cameras at Nandan and the Academy considered a high security zone as chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is a regular there.

Thanks for the post !

In many Indian big cities the Maoist presence is very prominent nowadays. The police no more dare to patrol the workers' residential areas at night. Militant movements among workers have increased sharply and the police do not retort to shooting indiscriminately, as either the legal mass organizations or the red guards try to avenge every loss for the working class. Slogans calling for the proletariat to seize state power also come up frequently in marches started on different issues.

It is almost impossible to find out who had put the posters there, because any passing worker, street vendor or student could have done it.
