Hi, I work at a concrete manufacturing plant in Tacoma, WA and have worked there for almost a year. I am a member of Local 252, and recently it has come to my attention that this union is not what it seemed to be.

When reading through the union contract, there were some class A infractions which were very pro-corporate, and almost none of the contract was "pro-worker". No strike promise, mandatory overtime, and the pay scale was not very good for a labor job. Recently, it has come to my attention that this plant is THE LOWEST paying job in the union, which really raised some eyebrows with my fellow workers. Workers who have worked there for nearly 10 years don't pass 20 - 22$, and most of the immigrant workers get payed less than I do. I've wanted to go to the union hall and ask them why all these are happening and in progress, but I've heard that they will not just scoff and won't do anything because we are a sub-contractor.

I just want to ask, What do I do? I've been talking to my fellow workers who share the same discontent as I do, but I fear that I am the only one who is willing to actually do anything, even though we have no union to back us up.

You could contact the Tacoma branch of the IWW (http://www.iww.org/en/branches/US/WA/Tacoma)? I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for or not though.

keep talking with them and maybe see if you can get more people to share the same views.
