I used to watch Arthur religiously twice a day for about 7 years of my life. Once we got cable, I fucking loved Rocket Power and Wild Thornberrys (I actually cried when I couldn't watch the Wild Thornberrys Christmas special).

Hey Arnold is boss also. Rugrats was cool until that little douche Dil came along.

Hey, do any of you remember that really sort of bizarre 'life help emotional lesson' type show that aired on lifetime (I think). Each episode would be a different person and how they interact with others. It was a fairly serious drama type show. It wasn't very popular either so I'm having a hard time looking it up. The one episode this main character guy and his girlfriend go to an abandoned carnival and he sends her up on the Ferris Wheel but he has this weird fit and sends her around really fast.

I think what happened is that Cartoon Network caught wind of the fact that their little network was attracting a lot of the 18-34 male demographic (it's a very coveted demographic after all) and thus gave birth to Adult Swim. It was shows like Space Ghost Coast to Coast that had a lot to do with that. Well, that's my theory anyway.

SGC2C is my favorite, I didn't put up any clips from that up because I figured it was aimed at slightly older audiences.

Some of the humor was very avante-garde, even Dada inspired IMO. There was one whole episode where Space Ghost gets bitten by an ant and literally just follows it with a magnifying glass for ten minutes, THAT WAS ALL HE DID.
[EDIT] Apparently this episode was a lead-in for that one.

Adult Swim is important to me, because it's sort of a cultural milestone for my life. Back when it first started, I was living in the dorms for the first time and it was the first of my college years, young and living on my own for the first time, and I used to watch it with my friends a lot. It's just kind of a symbol of those days for me.

when i was young i wasnt really allowed to watch cartoons so next to dutch programs you never heard about i mostly watched things like pipi longstocking and other swedish children serries and movies.
later i watched a lot of reruns of "happy days" and "the A-team" and such, think the only cartoon i followed before i was well in my teens was "x-men".
but i made up for all the cartoons i didnt watch as an kid when i turned 15 and started smoking weed.

Hey Arnold is boss also. Rugrats was cool until that little douche Dil came along.

One thing which sucked on Swedish television was the kid's shows. I liked Ika i Rutan (Ika on the Screen), because she was cool and goth one generations before the goths. I liked the Disney Time (Fridays 7 PM), especially during the Darkwing Duck era.

I hated Björne's Magasin (Beary's Storage Place) because it was stupid and showcased a dysfunctional bear who invited friends just to not give them his cookies.

The intro was the least worthless piece of that shit.

fY2dev6uLHg

Swedish animators of the 1970's, 1980's and the early 1990's seemed to make shitty animations on purpose, because Swedes of those generations seemed to like to make things which looked like they had been made in someone's garage. You cannot be this bad unless you try.

bWg4Agb8l0s

Oh, this was stupid as well.

They thought this show would increase tolerance towards kids with Down's syndrome. On the contrary, the name "Joelbitar" was an insult in school and high schools during that time.

Bamse would have been good as a TV show (it was a good comic, although pretty moralistic), if it had decent animators and not people who liked to do things which seemed quite stupid.

Fa0hCOR6Fvw

I actually liked the Disney series the most, especially Darkwing Duck which I found both interesting and sympathetic. Looking through old episodes, I still find some nostalgia value. The Bumbi Bears were also good.

A lot of 1968 communists/radicals made the children shows of the 70's and 80's. Most of them sucked really bad I have learned, especially Vilse i Pannkakan (Lost in the Pancake), which on a regular basis is accused of having destroyed one generation. It is truly debilitating to watch.

The nakedness isn't erotic. It just seems unnecessary for Goku to get naked in almost every episode without actually adding anything to the story.

It depends. There's one episode where he strips off to swim in a lake and someone steals his clothes so he flies naked on the nimbus thing to find them and get them back. That was a little strange.

I just use whichever name I hear the most. The Germans call him Songoku so when I lived in Berlin and talked about Dragonball I said that then. Some of the names are different in the manga I have too, but that's in German so maybe that's why.

Dragon Ball and Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba were favorites. The name Son Goku is a reference to The Monkey King in the classic Chinese epic Journey to the West. That tale is referenced in a LOT of different stories. The show Saiyuki was a very close adaptation.

Where are all the Dutch posters, posting stuff from our memories? Was there some kind of massive student protest today or something?

Bassie & Adriaan taught me everything about Wales, Greece, etc.:

Unfortunately, due to copyright bullshit, Youtube keeps deleting almost all their songs, including the awesome one about Greece (about eating souvlaki and dancing the sirtaki). :( But they did always pick the best background music:

Not to mention their usage of Mike Oldfield and Jean Michel Jarre. Kickass.

Also, we had Nazism on daytime children's TV:

In the series, the Nazis are supported by big business, the Church, etc. Pretty conscious for children's television. If they made this show today, some party leaders would probably complain that it was "demonising" to them.

Johnny Bravo strikes me as a womanizing prick.

You don't say!
