Student of 17 set him self on fire in his schools bathroom.
"His motives are unclear" the article sais, "but their could be a link with Tunesia." (Where the jasmine revolution was triggered by a man set himself on fire as a way of protest.)
It's in Dutch but you'll read soon about it i Guess...

Buddhist monks did it in the 1960's to protest the Vietnam war.

Buddhist monks did it in the 1960's to protest the Vietnam war.So this kid supported Ben Ali or what?
As a general rule of thumb you're not supposed to set yourself on fire when something good happens, as opposed to say, the Vietnam war.

That's the only connection I could make other than he just didn't want to live anymore. If I was going to kill myself I'd not use fire- ouch. I think he was trying to make some sort of statement?

That's usually how it works yeah. I suppose the news is still new yet.

There's a pretty interesting article on the BBC, 'Why do people set themselves on fire?', if anybody's interested:

though the event happened in Marseille, which has a very large N. African presence. The kid was in a private school, approaching graduation and there was a similar incident recently in another high school in Toulouse, also a kid about the same age. Need I say that the pressures on French high-school kids are pretty awful?

Motives are unclear it sais, 'possible' link with Tunesia.
It's in Dutch but you'll hear soon about it i Guess...
What makes anyone believe there's a link?
On the surface it seems wildly unrelated...

I have to agree with Zeek, as there isn't any more current evidence to suggest this is anymore relevant to Tunisia than the bomb attempt in Spokane, Washingon.

I could set myself on fire, and nobody would assume it was anything to do with Tunisia, irrespective of what's gone on out there. Unless I was of Maghrebi descent. Then, I guess, everybody would. I'm assuming the kid's an Arab, and that alone is enough of a link, apparently, even without any other substantiating evidence...

Off course, but the posible link is just what the article in dutch said!
I thought you could'nt read it...
It's a form of protest he learned from the events in tunesie ->that's it, that's the link.

There probably isn't any connection, but as you can read in the link I provided above the Jasmine Revolution was actually sparked by a man setting himself on fire in protest.

Pure coincidence on my part as I don't speak Dutch.
You clearly haven't read above comments.
Their is no 'big' political or adoration link. But neither is it 'pure' coincidence.
Its a way of protest which is appearing over North-Africa (Maghreb) last weeks and one of them triggerd the Tunisian revolution.

But neither is it 'pure' coincidence.
You need to take a look at the context my previous post. I said it was coincidental that I basically restated what the link in Dutch said.
Chill out bro.
