Former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude "Baby Doc'' Duvalier was reportedly arrested Tuesday at a Port-au-Prince hotel after he received visits from secret police that terrorized the country during his rule from 1971 to 1986.http://www.allheadlinenews.com/images/cp.gif Police surrounded and secured the posh Karibe Hotel in Petionville as Judge Gabriel Ambroise and Haitian attorney Reynold Georges met with Duvalier. The 59-year-old Duvalier was then seen exiting the hotel at noon via a white police van escorted by a SWAT team. There were no words yet where he went or was taken.
Duvalier, who was ousted in a popular revolt in 1986, ended a 25-year exile in France on Sunday. The timing of his return sparked rumors that he may seek a political comeback as the country is mired in a crisis on who should succeed outgoing president Rene Preval.
Three candidates are contesting the runoff elections: Jude Celestin, Preval’s pick; opposition figure Michel Martelly and former first lady Mirlande Manigat. With local and international pressure to replace Celestin and let Martelly and Manigat dispute the presidential runoff elections, rumors are spreading that Preval invited Duvalier to be a likely alternative candidate.
Duvalier’s camp denied the speculation, insisting that the former leader never spoke to anyone in Haiti prior to his surprise return.
Before his arrest, relatives and old time friends also visited him at the hotel.
Meanwhile, the U.S. and Canada issued statements denouncing his return. Victims of Duvalier’s crackdown against journalists joined human rights organizations’ call for his arrest and prosecution.
The French ambassador in Haiti, Didier Le-Bret, denied that Paris plotted Duvalier’s return.

To use the Biblical expression, the man reaped what the man sowed.

Are you kidding me??? He's been living in golden exile on his Swiss Bank accounts. He reaped nothing and will reap nothing until the the Haitian people smell the sweet scent of the burning tires.

Are you kidding me??? Chill out man. If you used your shift and 1 keys one more time you have broken them.

I'll put it simply for you to explain what I meant.
He reaped (Is probably going to get killed) what he sowed (Treated the Haitian people like shit).

Sure, Baby Doc is a terrible man, but I wouldn't wish even my worst enemy to suffer necklacing.

Took long enough ... One year after dictator Somoza was ousted in Nicaragua, Cubans , Nicaraguans and Argentine communist revolutionaries stalked him to his lair in Paraguay and RPGed and machine gunned him to death.

Yeah man. They should have sent in the tactical hug squad. That would have been much more effective.

They shouldn't have sent any squad.

So what do you suggest --- that Somoza should have been allowed to roost like a pig in Paraguay for the remainder of his days unmolested? He should have been skewered like a pig that he was and burned in oil.

What the fuck is going on in Duvalier's head?? Did he think he could just come back to Haiti and everyone would have forgotten all his crimes and inhuman treachery? What a fool!

Hopefully Baby Doc will be charged with a huge list of crimes relating to his rule and spends the rest of his life rotting in some godforsaken cell in Port-au-prince.

Violence isn't the answer. Ok, they could have kidnapped him, and brought him back and locked him up for the rest of his days.

Justice sometimes comes in the form of bullets. The form it takes doesn't change what it is.

Evil people "rot in jail" every day.

And so they should. Or should we just rack up the execution rates?
