The current way of doing the Artist Focuses is to have people nominate bands and then everyone votes, then a sort of overview of the band is done by me, the mod.

I think that it would be a lot more fun if we did it this way....

We have a rotating order of people who do Artist Focuses, and each month it's the next person on the order who makes it. There is no voting on what band is done and there are no nominations, it's just done by whoever is on the order and is their decision. Catch is, that they can't do a band that is of their favorite genre, or that they have been listening to for a while. They need to seek out a band of a genre that isn't their favorite genre (or one of their favorite genres) that they like to do it on.

I listen to mostly punk rock. When it's my turn, I wouldn't be allowed to do a punk band. I'd have to find a non-punk band that I hadn't heard of before that I like, and I'd make it on them.

It's a way of getting people to explore different genres of music and find new artists that they like, instead of just reading an overview of a band they already know. And since it's all up to the person who does it, the people reading it wouldn't know who it is ahead of time and would be more likely to find new music.

I wanna do it like this, I attached a poll to get your feedback.

I think this has the possibility of being a good idea, however I'd be concerned if people who said they would do it didn't, and that there could be no accountability in place for it.

If they haven't done it in a certain amount of time the next person set to do it can take their place. This gives people an incentive to think about what artist/band they will do in advance.

That occurred to me, but I think that that's not too likely. And if one person skips out we'd just move to the next.

Sounds good. How would the list of people be complied? Volunteer? If so, I would like to Volunteer.

I like the concept, but with the "no picking an artist from your favorite genre" twist you could run the risk of featuring some (subjectively speaking, of course) shitty artists. I'm cool with it either way though, and I'd be happy to participate.

So far it seems like it's definitely considered a good idea.
