I am a Marxist-Leninist, and I plan on remaining one. But I am wondering if anyone can describe the current conditions in Socialist Cuba.
I live in America, and all we hear is that 'Conditions in Cuba are so horrible that people will get on rafts to flee to the USA.' I do not deny that this happens, but I wonder how much the news media is spinning this against the Cuban government.

Also, could you comment on the way Cuban health care was presented in Michael Moor's film Sicko (2007). I have heard horror stories from Cuban ex-patriots about this, and I am wondering if they are exaggerating.

Cuba isn't socialist.

Cuba is by principle socialist but in practice consistently violates human rights and actively pursues internal dissent.

Cuban health care is indeed rather good, although it lacks certain standardized medical equipment due to the embargo.

'Internal dissent' in Cuba equals the mad ravings of a gang of poorly-supported shysters in the pay of the US Government.

Cuba does not fully fulfill the Marxist description of socialism. However, they have low malnutrition rates and they have wonderful healthcare. Do note that Cuban had to enact authoritarian policies because of foreign imperial pressures such as the United States.

Be careful of what you take as truth for Cuban exiles living in the United States (especially in South Florida for example) as they are usually quite anti-Castro (although many are not)

I would describe Cuba as Socialist, and instead of making that argument myself, I'll suggest some excellent readings instead:
