I find it hard to dig modern 'indie' bands for the most part. Some are okay, but when someone says indie I think The Smiths, New Order, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Fall, The Stone Roses, XTC and probably my favourite; Pixies.

The 80s and early 90s is where its at for indie.

I suppose I listen to a good deal of music which could be called indie. I would have to say Elliott Smith is one of my more preferred artists, though a lot of older 80s/90s stuff is quite decent as well.

A lot of what I listen to could be called Indie but yeah, I don't like a lot of "modern" indie. I think it might sound ridiculous but a lot of it seems "insincere" to me. Like "oh hey look we're going to do some silly off-kilter thing like have a guy walk around with a big ol' bass drum like in a marching band because that is indie" or something.

I also listened to the Black Keys before they decided it was a good idea to ruin some of their songs forever and put them on a truck commercial. +1 cred for me.

yeah ive listened to all of that and its all amazing. Elliot Smith, to me, seems like a pioneer for indie along with Pavement. I really like the lyrics that bands like black keys and others even hip hop artists like kid cudi, by the way who has a great song called Revofev or revolution of evolution. It's a "wake up!" song. if you get what im saying.

haha, but you have to admit Brothers album is fucking awesome. It's even got some old soul jams on it.

Half of these I wouldn't describe as 'indie' bands at all.

Don't actually listen to them that much. What I've heard is alright.

Used to be an "indie" fan but now a lot of guitar music just seems dull to me.

Elliott Smith's music in particular, however, is etched into my heart; I can listen to his songs and be transported back to a particular point of time immediately and that shit is good for hungover moping. Pavement are good too, and the Magnetic Fields.

Also Yo La Tengo. Otherwise no indie for me.
