Let the ruling classes tremble is the name of an interactive AAR that I run on the Paradox Interactive forum.
I only post this here as I know my AAR is very popular amongst the Leftist community of this website and I hope some of you might want to take a look at it.
Let the ruling classes tremble – an Interactive Revolutionary AAR (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?504464-Let-the-ruling-classes-tremble-–-an-Interactive-Revolutionary-AAR)
What's an AAR?
An AAR is an after action report. Essentially these grew out of people explaining what happens in games that they play. On the Paradox forum they have developed a lot from that. In my AAR I write in a history book like style and my updates are usually a few thousand words long. They include in game pictures screenshots, maps and historical pictures.
What is Let the ruling classes tremble?
This AAR follows me through an edited game of Victoria 2. I have edited to include a socialist Republic in the Rhineland called the VSVR - Vereinigte Sozialistische Volksrepublik or United Socialist People's Republic to us English speakers.
The AAR starts with the Rhineland Revolution of 1848-1850 during which time the wave of revolutions that swept Europe in RL 1848 become much more severe and much more socialistic. However their only major gain is the idenpendence of the Rhineland from Prussia and the formation of the Republic. However to defeat the Prussians the Anarchists, Marxists and German Socialists (represenative of a wider non-Marxist socialist movement) had to join forces in a United Front.
Sounds stupid, why would I like it?
Well as I have said this is an interactive AAR. Startin from 1850 and almost every 5 years thereafter the Republic holds elections. Originally these just determined the Chairman but the evolved so the Republic now has a Parliament that is elected by the people (not the forum readers) whilst the Chairman is elected by the Party (the forum leaders).
The elections are vibrant and turnout has steadily increased from about 50 at the start to almost 75. This doesn't sound like a lot but for one thread that's a lot of active people.
I almost exclusivley use RL Leftists although one or two readers have been given roles in the AAR. The Republic's history has been dominated by Marxists although other factions (notably the perennial opposition - the Anarchists) have a lot of support.
As a example of who we've had here are the previous Chairmen in order:
Weitling (a rather obscure guy and a shock victor of the first election), Karl Marx, Engels, Lenin, Kropotkin (his Anarchists joined forces with a group of Trade Unionists to beat Lenin), Lenin again (he launched a coup against the struggled Kropotkin government), Rosa Luxemburg, Karl Liebknecht (he took over after Luxemburg was assissinated) and most recently Leon Trotsky (he's currently up for re-election but seems to be very unpopular with the readership).
I've look at the thread and I am daunted by its size.
Yes. This has been going on for several months and there are now over 200 pages of posts. But do not fear! On the second post I have listed all of my updates and all of the articles and speeches readers have submitted to me for posting (some users write newspaper articles to help support their faction's views).
I can't be assed reading all of that, I want to join in now!
I don't blame you. We shall soon be entering the election season once again so if you want to play a role in Trotsky's fate now is probably the time. If anyone is interested please post in this thread and I will happily give you a brief synopsis to sum up the 55 years of VSVR history you missed as well as the main issues in the coming election so you can take part in debates with other readers and place your vote with confidence.
I hope at least some people will find time from your busy revolutionary schedules to take part and have a little fun with this AAR. Even if you unsure you might as well take a look. What can you lose?
