Hey.
I'm a little unsure what to write here and how to write it, so I'll just try to strictly stay to the form suggested in a sticky above.

I'm from Norway, I am male and I am eighteen. In Norway, communism is all but beaten down to a small, somewhat organized rubble; most of the aspiring communists are picked up by youth organizations masqueraded as communist, and then teach them that Palestine is good, that women are weaker than men but that that may never be spoken of, and that Lenin, Marx and Mao all were wrong, with no reason why.
Still, the Norwegian governement takes care of most of it's people, and I would deem it a better governement than most.

As for which branch of leftism I would subscribe to, I am a little unsure. Lenin is my favorite, and I agree with Mao in many aspects. However, I am against the use of torture and demeaning conditions for those who have to be removed from the public for working against the people's best. I am definately a communist, though, although I also like reading and thinking about anarcho-syndicalism.

I have been an anti-capitalist since I was like eleven, although I am not really sure why I was at the time - I know as a result of texts I have found later on. I never really became aware of the alternatives to capitalism, however, until a couple of years ago, when I was introduced to communism through a friend. We both join the largest of these "communist youth organizations" I mentioned above, and I quickly rose to a position on the national board, until I found out that for all my effort, my attempts to put the theories of Marx and Lenin back into the organizations were never gonna mount to anything. From that point, I sought out one of the two organizations in Norway (and I am not kidding here) that atually can be described Marxist.

And, well, that's my story. I hope to participate in giving discussions here, and to learn that which I cannot learn on my own.

Sincerely
althor

Hey.
It seems my first post didn't make it through for some reason. I probably misclicked or something.
So, yeah. I'm from Norway and I'm eighteen. I am a little unsure as to exactly which spesific branch of leftism I would brand myself under. I really like anarchism, but all in all I am a communist, and I think a maoist at that.
I like the five big ones, although I'm against torture and therefore can't really call myself a Stallinist. Other than that, I have worked a lot out for myself. I have read on the internet what I have been able to find that has been easy enough for me to understand, and to what extent I have been able to motivate myself to (reading theory is fun, but for a finite amount of time). I really want to come here to be able to discuss.
Discussing politics in Norway is quite the challenge. Now, if you're interested in the inner workings of the local kindergarten, or perhaps like to discuss wheather or not one particular illegal imigrant should be allowed to stay because she's well educated and white, then well, Norway is your place. But the bigger lines in ideologies and international politics and the likes of it, well, people seem not to be interested, and most of the organizations in Norway that passes for communist seems to believe that feminism is more important than anything else.

So, what I want from this forum is a place to exchange ideas, to have my thoughts challenged and perhaps replaced by new ones based on the discussions I have. One can read all one want, but true learning comes through discussion.

So, let's get this show on the road!

Welcome.

Can you throw some light on the popularity and working of the Tjen Folket – Kommunistisk Forbund ?

Thanks, I realized my mistake after posting the second post and then taking the time to read the message it resulted in. Sorry about that, thanks for merging them :)

Well, as to the workings of the party I cannot say much, largely because I am not quite sure about it. I am a member of their youth organization, Revolutionary Communist Youth (free translation), but I have not participated that much.

From what I have experienced, however, it's a good organization filled with serious, intelligent people. The party is largely focused on the five big ones, from what I have understood, and most my understanding comes from material I have received from the organization, or read on their websites.

As for popularity, well, that's not that widespread. On the few occasions where I admit to which party I subscribe, no one ever seem to have heard of it.
The party is largely hated by the social-democrats that call themselves communist, though, although never really substantial hatred. It's more like.. yeah, hate those guys. Period.

Tjen Folket is, from what I have understood, the result of the migration of the parties Red Electoral Alliance and the Workers Communist Party (m-l); those two migrated into a parlamentary party called Red, and their youth organization Red Youth is perhaps the most relevant of the social democrats I mentioned in my first two posts, naming themselves communist. However, some members of the Workers Communst Party (m-l) (AKP m-l in Norwegian) rejected the transaction, not believing in Red and it's parlamentary ways, and from these few, Tjen Folket (Serve the People) was created. From that point on, the party has had a slow, but steady growth.

All this is my own interpretation of events I did not participate in, however I do believe it should be largely accurate.
