Interesting. In Micheal Parenti's excellent book on the assassination of Julius Caesar he describes the ruling classes plunder of the public lands and how it ruined the small farmers of Rome. If this shift in climate had not occurred could have Roman society have "gotten by"? Or do you think it merely hastened the collapse?
