Who does it? Do you do it with only your fingers? And What do you think of it? Harmful or not? Do you find it irritating to listen to it?

I crack my fingers and my toes, I have no idea if it is harmful but I like the sound. My toes and especially my finger feel like their full of pent up energy if I don't crack them so maybe I associate the sound with a satisfactory feeling or something.

I do it a lot when no one is around...and at 25 I have significant joint/muscle/nerve problems in my hands! (the two are probably totally unrelated in reality but an anecdotal datapoint)

Most of my joints don't crack unless I've been sitting in one position for too long. The sound gets annoying if someone does it too often, but other than that I'm not bothered either way. It does feel nice to crack a stiff joint though.

Joint cracking can cause insignificant damage ligaments, but not enough to cause any real problems.
Edit: I also crack my fingers and toes. It makes them feel better. :)

I do it all the time.

I crack finger, wrists and toes. And I think I'm overdoing it. Not that it hurts, but sometimes I try to crack the ones I already used. That doesn't make any sense. However I don't believe it causes any real damage.

Used to crack every possible thing religiously. Now I rarely do it to anything but my back, cause even if there's a slight possibility of any damage, that does it for me cause I'd kill myself if I had finger pain/loss of dexterity.

From what I remember the cracking sound is due to pockets of synovial fluid popping. Synovial fluid keeps act as a lubricant between joints a bit like oil on cogs. Long term forced popping of these pockets can result in arthritis although obviously this is not the only cause of arthritis because we lose synovial fluid naturally and as far as I remember we do not reproduce it.
As your ribs and clavicle are not synovial joints you should not be able to crack them.
Although all this is from memory so could be completely wrong :D

I actually know what you mean. When I stretch backwards I sometimes feel or hear a crack along my sternum/ribcage.

False.

every time you crack your fingers you are destroying another bubble of synovial fluid which is the lubricant that stops bones rubbing together. Arthritis is caused by not having anything between the bones. I should have probably worded it differently it can contribute to arthritis and may speed up the process.

I can also. It usually happens when my back is hurting so I take a deep breath which expands the bons and cause them to crack. I crack my spine also, which makes it better sometimes and worse others so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be the Hunchback of Notre Dame soon :(

A deep breath to be more concise. Not all the time, but usually after I've gotten high from breathing in so much air for about 5-10 mins lol. It helps clear up my back so it's good in my book.

I can usually only do it after having sat hunched over for a while. The first time it happened I thought for a moment I'd actually broken something.

No, arthritis is caused by something different. However, someone who has regularly popped his joints and gets arthritis will have problems because any long term forced movement (like lifting) adds to the wearing out of the body.
Cracking joints does not make you lose the fluid. It forces gas bubles into the vacuum. That's why it makes a sound. On top of that, everyone would suffer from arthritis if this disease had anything to do with simply the loss of the fluid. The fluids cannot disappear easily by way of moving the joints because of the vacuum. However, degeneration of the body makes us lose some of it over time. As you wrote:
we lose synovial fluid naturally and as far as I remember we do not reproduce it.The real problem is that our joints and its fluids can be infected. That's the cause of many problems that concern our joints.

I wouldn't recommend cracking joints. I can crack everywhere in my body, and I hate it. I'm too lazy to take a picture (although I will if someone is interested), but from cracking my fingers too much, 3 fingers on my right hand are uneven if I hold my hand straight outwards. It's absolutely painless, but shit looks whacky. I'm only 21, so shows how much I crack everyday the last 13 years.
