On a recent trip into the mine, none of the miners wore masks, and their hands and face were caked with uranium ore.
"It washes off," miner Cody Behuden, 28, told the BBC while licking his ore-caked lips.

I didn't see this when it was first written. But regardless of the date it is relevant.
Somehow though, even if they're claiming that mining is being "checked" so that it won't harm the drinking water, they'll probably go through with it anyways if they think it's worth the "risk". The careless safety standards that have been shown with the miners in Best Mod's post shows as much.

Jesus.
I had a work placement at a uranium mill/mine last year. Every time you went and came out of the mill area you had to shower and change clothes: I was just helping run the steam plant but it was probably more in depth for the guys working in the actual ore processing area (they had radiation monitors and suits...etc). The plant was also unionized to the nth degree (and they HATED management).
This is crazy terrible. I'm going to bet that the ore is full of heavy metals and arsenic and shit.

"It has a consistency not unlike chocolate frosting," he continued. "I bring some home to the kids -- they love the stuff."
