View Full Version : When people spell America with a K

It really tells me how much they truly hate America when they spell it with a K because the letter K is a much more oozing of hatred than the letter C.
I also propose we start referring to Britain as Brition to show how much we oppose it. O is more menacing than A.
Who?

It's just a satiric misspelling, it was popular with radicals in the 60's and 70's.
Why not just call it the United KKKingdom?

Unlike some people, I'm not entirely opposed to using "AmeriKKKa" sometimes, because it conveys the idea that America is still fundamentally racist. A lot of people overuse it but for someone who has never seen it before, it might get them thinking.
So, I approve of spelling "America" as "AmeriKKKa," at least on occasion. :che:

'Oh boy, America is such a fine and dandy country where all people have the same opportunities and influence, and where everyone have the means for survival and prosperity. Wait, what is that written on that poster over there? Does it say "AmeriKKKa"? Hmmmmmmmmmm. Oh wow. That misspelling of "America", replacing the letter C with three K's, must mean that I am completely wrong in what I perceived America to be. What a persuasive grammatical error.'

MIM somewhat accurately called it "Black Panther Language," and also ridiculously claimed that it had been personally endorsed by Stalin in his theses on language.

Post-Mindcrime they sucked. :(To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of MindKKKrime, and prefer their earlier works. But yes, they fell off quite a lot after MindKKKrime, and AmerÿcheKKKan $oldier was more or less just awful.

I really, really think this is a cold-war thing. In Cyrillic the only hard "k" sound is with a "k", which made "amerika" (as it had always been written) appeal to xenophobic and quite possibly anti-semitic sentiments (seeing as how this is how it is spelled in much of central and eastern europe from where Jews and newer European immigrants came). It might actually go back to the paranoia of the first world war, but I don't think it took off in earnest as a "derogatory" spelling until the cold war.
I think therefore it's quite distinct from the history of the United $naKKKes thing. The latter really is a form of ascii art.

You're not talking about Alaska, are you?
Alaska was a Russian colony that was transfered over to the U.S. during the 19th century. That's why there are onion domes everywhere, and bearded dudes with last names like "Ivanov" in my town. It's also why a lot of the native americans in Alaska have Russian names.
Actually, one of the really, really old (90+) Russian Orthodox monks in my town was supposedly tortured pretty badly in the former USSR.
