I left out bird feed for the birds. Birds aren't used to this down here. They come after awhile, eat. Then the big birds come- eventually it gets a little rough and the pigeons and crows shove out the smaller birds.

Magón
13th January 2011, 02:34
Now we know why all those birds dropped out of the sky. They weren't prepared enough for the cold snap in the South!

We got a few inches of snow last night (about 30miles from Seattle), and I have no heat in my car. A fifteen minute drive = can't feel my toes for an hour :(
luckily it started raining awhile ago and will probably all be melted within twenty minutes. Idk, I hate driving in the snow, but everything looks really pretty; it was sort of a nice break from the usual grey, dead, bleakness of winter around here. Plus, I love how when it snows (accumulates) at night, the sky turns this bright pinkish color.

What is this "snow" you speak of? You mean like when your TV doesn't work? 36°F and it's kind of cold actually...

Os Cangaceiros

I haven't seen it snow here for at least a year, but I remember around December of '09 it did, and people really displayed their total ineptitude while operating motor vehicles. I mean, drivers here are pretty terrible anyway, but throw in a little condensation and some slick roads and it's like you're on the highway with a pack of half-blind teenagers with the collective reflexes of a dead cat.

People in the south get tornadoes. I think I'd rather deal with earth quakes but tornadoes seem to be more localized. It's a toss up. I'd rather deal with neither.

Also, FL has everyone beat for shit weather.

In the 'winter' there are short cold periods (this is new btw) like right now, its in the twenties, but it won't snow so it isn't even worth it.

Summer last from late march- fucking November. Humidity makes it feel like hot sticky suana at night and the sheer amount of sun makes it an oven during the day. (A sticky wet oven mind you). And with said humidity, you get your expected mongol horde of mosquitoes and other annoying biting insects galore. It rains completely randomly (i.e I had it rain in my front yard but not in my back this last summer, and that not really unusual, have seen it rain on one side of the road and not the other before. etc) Oh, and hurricanes.

As for the demographics. You got your regular southern cities. (fairly diverse, but still have public displays of racism i never have seen or heard of else where, for example a giant rebel flag flying at the intersection of I-4 and I-75, right before the MLK Jr. Blvd exit. ) And the rest is pretty much a caricature of Mississippi Burning.

I win.

I never said northeast was better cause we have shitty weather, I said we're better (which we are) because we're not amateurs when it comes to handling any extreme weather condition.

Also, Amphictyonis, earthquakes aren't weather related, so you can just leave now.

20s F, or below zero C. 20 F would be around -7 C if my math is good. it is slightly warmer than that though. (windy however). Also 20 C is hot to you? Where do you live so I can move there??!

Average summer temps here are 30 C at night and between 35-40 C during the day. Or 80s F at night and 90's- 100's during the day. Plus humidity (80-100%) of course.

We had about 7 inches of snow. It's shut down schools and pretty much the whole city all week. I agree, people down here FREAK THE FUCK OUT whenever there is snow in the forecast. But to our credit, we pretty much never have this much winter weather. We have no snowplows, no roads being salted. We have no infrastructure to handle it so basically the roads are pretty shitty. And it's not like we have public transport.

Pfft you Norwegians just don't recognize when you shouldn't be taking the roads to school. That's why it's estimated that in Norway, thousands of buses crash each day on the way to school due to icy roads!
