He used to be a good actor. I hear he just takes himself too seriously these days.

He's a really good actor, he just does douchey blockbusters now though.

The thread is showing a pretty amusing compilation of scenes from a movie where the thread title seems to aptly describe the protagonist.
Physical abuse is not funny, a fictionalized depiction of a guy dressed up in a bear costume doing a drive by punch is.

Haven't actually even seen it, I fell asleep during the opening scene.

the best is totally the dramatic look on his face when he's holding the woman on his lap

Could a mod put quotations around the thread title? I think it's fairly obvious that I don't actually love punching women and that I was describing the character. Normally I don't really care about offending people, but this is a serious issue and I don't want people to take it the wrong way.

Wild at Heart was good, but really, anything more than that and I can never take Nic Cage as a good actor.

Nicholas Cage was never really that great of an actor. He's been in a handful of good films (the best probably being Bringing Out The Dead...I love that movie) and a lot of crap.

Really? Cuz I really thought that you were admitting that you like punching women. My high horse was saddled and ready to go, and now this.

I have my lance at the ready shall the gauntlet be thrown. Apparently some people did take offense to it though, and given that it's a topic worthy of being offended by, I figured I'd appease them.

Obviously its a joke...a misogynistic joke...its supposed to be funny...
you'd think it was funny if you were one of the guys and not an overly sensitive uncool whiny [female] person - I believe, is how the logic of the joke goes. Get off your high horse and accept that making fun of women in a 95%+ male forum is hilarious and doesn't produce a remotely hostile atmosphere!
Of course cause this is a leftist form that pays lip service to anti-sexism...admitting that that was indeed the undercurrent is probably not going to happen.

You know, you're right, the thread title isn't all that different from me posting a clip of American History X with a title of "I Love Stomping Black People". The clip is hilarious and the intention of the title was to highlight the absurdity of the scenes when taken out of the context of the movie, but I can see where it came off wrong. my b

Aww, no all-caps. You can't really convey the flavour of the line without putting it in all caps.

Give him a good script and good direction and he's easily tolerable.

Examples? (And you can't say anything where a co-star or something like that holds his hand along the way, or gave him a bit of a boost, because I already mentioned Wild at Heart, and the only reason I liked that movie was because 1. David Lynch is the bomb as a whacky director/creator, and 2. Laura Dern was fucking hot/fantastic.

His performance in Bad Lieutenant was awesome. It's not easy to portray someone who is losing the head on their shoulders that well.

Oh, Wild At Heart is an excellent film. For some reason it didn't come to mind. Maybe because I have it mentally filed as a David Lynch film rather than a Nicholas Cage film.
David Lynch IS the bomb. You know, I saw the ear from Blue Velvet once; just because you're an atheist doesn't mean you can't recognize the existence of a few sacred relics.
Anyway, so far as movies in which Nicholas Cage is easily tolerable, I was thinking of Adaptation and Scorsese's Bringing Out The Dead. Mostly Bringing Out The Dead.

For a minute there, I thought you were talking about the Harvey Keitel starring Bad Lieutenant. :p

It's probably best you keep Wild at Heart a David Lynch film, he's much more deserving. As for Adaptation, I watched that movie through true will of force.

Aaah! finally, NC is a overrated actor who cant adapt or come up with something, what should i say...interesting in his acting. My definition of a good actor is that they should be flexible and able too play different characters in a convincing way. NC cant do this hes always the same guy in his acting, which is some boring, tired and slow middleaged man who doesnt show any glimt of enthusiasm.

Ah, that should have occurred to me as well. Yes, I enjoyed Cage in Raising Arizona (though I doubt anyone here would dispute that that was more to do with the Coens than with him.)
