I thought it would be interesting to see a thread with images of war, and Im talking ones that encapture the moment, not just wishy washy pictures that the global media called "moving", cause generally they are shoite!

This is one of my favourites. It is a picture of Joe McCann of the Irish Republican Army. His unit (6 men) is in the midst of defending the Markets area of Belfast from 500/600 British soldiers. For me, it shows hope in the midst of destruction. It also shows defiance in the face of repression.

I think this one is from the Ormeau Road in Belfast. What a picture! It,for me remember, captures the fact that those who were actively engaged in the war against the British, were the working class republican socialists.
Dont just post Ireland, I can only post from my own knowledge, but I would like to see pictures from around the globe, if possible.

Ok, I have a little bit of an issue with this one. I mean, seriously? Going to battle in a skirt? Did she put on makeup as well.

She was probably going to a dance after lol
But seriously, Joe McCann, the guy in the first pic, was said to have been standing in the line for the cinema when the brits rolled by, he pulled out two grenades and a short, attacked them then went to the pictures lol Legend.

Short arm. Slang over here for the likes of a revolver or a .38.

XD I think the skirt adds to the picture. It seems audacious in its impracticality.
A bit Baader-Meinhof, actually.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Or it reminds me of the urban guerrillas who fought against the militaries in Argentina. I watched a movie (a fictional account tho) were one befriends the daughter of a general and plants a bomb in his apartment. Talk about militant!

It's goddamn depressing because most of the movie is just this girl being tortured by the militaries. But from what I recall it was a pretty good movie...the end was nice :thumbup1:. It was called "Garage Olimpo." I talked about it briefly in the independent movies thread.
In the 70's, eighteen year-old Maria Fabiani lives with her French mother Diane in an old house in Buenos Aires, subletting rooms and giving classes to illiterate adults in the slums. One of the tenants, Felix, has a non-corresponded crush on Maria. When the teenager is abducted in her house by the Argentinean army accused of subversion, her mother seeks her out in the 23rd Precinct where one of the military without uniform tells her that they are heading with Maria. While Diane desperately tries to find information about her daughter, Maria is submitted to torture in the hideous underground of the Garage Olimpo.
From IMDB. It's been a while since I've seen it, but from my memory, the whole movie is that last part.

You know, I always get hung up on how unbelievably uncool the U.S. army looks, and these pictures just drive that home.

And that skirt pic is priceless!! Back in the troubles the girls would stroll downtown with shorts in their bags haha, "the best of times the worst of times". I wasnt alive back then but I can still feel it, we all can... years later and the wounds are still there. I can hav a drink with my uncles and cousins and listen to them talk about it, its easy to glamorize, but the reality hits hard. Girls widowed in their fucking teens man, girls like Mcanns wife. Oh but all this nostalgia and no pics haha sory
