The greatest irony is this: the bourgeoisie are more conscious of the strength and power of the proletariat than the proletariat is. You know the FBI and CIA are always surveilling and the pollsters are always checking the pulse of the country by conducting polls of all sorts and the propaganda machine never stalls for a single moment to brainwash the masses.

I think they don't have much faith in the proletariat, that's why they aleays get away with FOX news, cutting pensions, exporting jobs, etc.

Thats why it is more important to be out challenging the system than sitting on this site pontificating to like minded people, claiming to be more revolutionary than anyone else.

Im not accusing you of doing this, but there are posters on here who do this.

Good points in that OP.

I think they don't have much faith in the proletariat, that's why they aleays get away with FOX news, cutting pensions, exporting jobs, etc.Ha, you're right.

I think it's a bit of both though: I think they know the history and potential and there is probably higher ruling class consciousness than working class consiousness in the US now. One of the recent auto-industry moguls (I think) said something about how yes the class war exists but it's the rich who are waging it and winning. I think just the fact that business consciously sees the need to link pro-business interests with a social base (right-wing evangelicals and anti-tax) in order to give a faux (or is it FOX) populist sheen to pro-rich policies shows that they know that they're outnumbered and screwing us over.

But at the same time, the ruling class (all ruling classes) tend to be a mix of drunk hubris and hawkish protection of their social order.

It is ironic, but it is ironic for a reason. The ruling class wouldn't be around if we were more conscious of our strength. They feed us propaganda (like the OP pointed out) and treat us like mushrooms: feed us bullshit and keep us in the dark. Once we unite, it won't be ironic anymore.
