I think Kazaa is a great tool. Kazaa allows you to be exposed to all kinds of music. It also not stopped me from buying albums like they claim. I buy the album if i liked most the songs on it. The quality of the bought CD's are almost always dozens times better than those burned in a burner. The restrictions in place on it now, however have alarmed me. There are very few people who actually don't use a file sharing service. Its absurd to try to catch them all, but nonetheless, the record companies are doing their best to stop kazaa and the like to function.

I used to use "Clean iMesh," but all p2p programs fucked my computer up so bad, that I just stopped using them.

Am i the only one here who buys CDs?
kazaa and kazaa lite, by the way, are still corporations, don't think you're getting past the capies when you rip it off the internet.

My intention for installing Kazaa was never to rip off the cappies...I used kazaa more for videos and rare songs...
I still buy cd's all the time...

I buy CD's, because I have a 56K modem and it takes me like an hour to download one song... not good.
However i still use WIN MX on some occasions, simply because they have a better interface than the others like Morpheus and Kazzar... in my opinion.

I erased Kazza off my hardrive in mortal fear of the RIAA, but I wasn't subpeaned (however you spell it...shit). I felt guilty for downloading the music I liked off of there because I'm a broke ass college student that can't afford albums. But I know that downloading underground punk and rap is wrong to, those guys work really hard, so I gave in and got rid of it. Now if I was a pop fan I'd still have the program running and would download a hundred songs a day with a big shit eating grin on my face.

man this board really has gone down hill lately. you felt guilty because you are poor and you got to listen to music for free. well i really hope that guilt won't get you depressed enough to put the gun in your mouth because that would really be a shame. i know it sounds like stupid base propaganda or something like that but: art should be free. i definately agree with always paying for going to shows ( i just saw radiohead by the way 3 days ago and they completely blew me away, best show ever) but downloading songs from the internet i cannot believe anyone would have a problem with that except for those assholes from metalica. it is simply spreading art and ideas, the base of music, for free. 'no one would resent that type of thing unless they are a wolf trying to make you their meal' -malcolm. i can't believe also the fact that ' kazaa and kazaa lite' are still corporations so you're still being the good consumer that they want you to be.
b-b-b-bullshit. since when has stealing from and taking money directly out of the pockets of businessmen and corporations become participating in that great capitalism system.
and after all i started this to get suggestions and after 8 replies i've gotten one suggestion and a whole lot of bullshit. my personal belief is that all property is theft and the base of all business is theft, so i think nothing of stealing. i steal things constantly. i can't expect everyone to appreciate that idea but i could at least expect all of you to realize that sharing art is BENEFICIAL to artists and HURTFUL to greedy businessmen. get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.

I use Kazaa also...and I am a tad bit freaked abuot being subpoened but hell I havent d/l nearly as much as other..I'm on 56k for the love of pete. I think the RIAA rips ppl off...15-18 bucks for a CD?! thats utter bull....and I'm sure it only probably costs 5 dollars to make. I dont feel sorry for downloading songs...because if a cd is good enough I go and buy it...and I STILL only buy used CD's and I wont pay over 8 bucks. Thats how I was before kazaa and if it goes away, they still wont be making any money off me.

I use Kazaa but I would watch out as some of the things you can download are not what you expect as someone has changed the file name and you could end up with something you didnt want. Iwas trying to get snoop doggy dogg doggiestyle front cover to use as a avator and well lets just say that what I got wasnt legal in the UK.

ok people if your going to your a p2p file sharing software i am gunna prolly recomend kazaa lite the pest out there people you see you dont get he latest version of kazaa lite because it sucks monkey ass well you see kazaa has things called spyware yep its bad its the cappie way of spying on your kinda like the patriotict act then when you get kazaa lite you need to get 2.10 build 3 its the best out there and also whoever ays kazaa lite is a major corporation is wrong it isnt ill tell you why because what the k-lite team is doing is kinda illegal because of the other corporation kazaa but you see the fact is that they cant shut these things down its got a thing called a super node napster on the other hand can be shut on and off for safety perpuses becase it has a central computer that you connect to which is easily shut down but kazaa or k-lite is run by you! the most important part is you because your the main person and when you download music dont share your music because your then gunna soon fall victim of the RIAA

i fucking hate kazaa and kazaa lite... They hardly have anything I want on there. :-/
For relatively rare music I use Soulseek... For movies I usually use eMule...
But it hasn't stopped me from buying stuff. I just got 'Freddy got fingered' on the American eBay, since it never got released in Germany, but it'll take a couple of days to get here, so I already downloaded it. It maybe has driven me even more away from what is being sold by the millions, because I have more of a choice, now, but I do still buy cds... Just no major label cds... (save Marilyn Manson and Bob Dylan... (Dylan's albums are pretty cheap here, at about 8 Euros/7.something US$))

see, and there are enough cds around now, that cost less than $10, often less then $7... Not new releases, but still. We don't have too many used-cd-stores here, but I use eBay for that... Better selection anyway.

Alright, that did come off a little conformist, but when you download underground albums that don't sell very much you're not stealing from the corporation you're stealing from people who might put out their own albums. And even if corporations controlled all music that came out it would hurt underground music as a whole considering that the only bands they signed would be bands they could market. People aren't going to flock to stores for the new Subhumans album, but they will for the new Nsync cd. Which do you think would get signed if record labels gave up on talent and went for the big buck? In the end, if you download underground music you're basically fucking yourself and other poeple (unless you buy the album). Those bands wont see any money except the show, and eventually they may even get frustrated and get normal jobs and sell out all the way.
Art should be free, but the way things are now it can't be so don't give me this shit of, "Oh, it's okay, I'm sticking it to the MAN!" Because in some cases you're not. Just buy the underground CD's, and if you do listen to mainstream music go ahead and download it. I guess that's what I'm trying to get across.

I agree that there are some underground music that needs to be supported...and if I were to find something that I like enought, I will buy it if it's unknown. But if its something mainstream...I'll just get it used or d/l it...in the SF Bay, we have huge music stores that sell a huge variety of used cd's. I once found a Janet Jackson cd (from when i was young...my youth *tear*) for 2 bucks. Can't beat that with a stick! Sure its harder to find brand spanking new stuff...but its still good to search for some tunes. Also, these programs have stuff you can't buy...live music that sometimes never comes out on disc...so lets support great artists not the mass corporations

Yeah, finding unreleased stuff on there did kick ass. Like the March of Death, that was something special.

Soulseek is good for finding rare stuff, kind of like the old audiogalaxy, and no spyware.
I've found stuff on there that I never found using kaza, morpheus etc.
There is also a program called Shareaza, that at least used to boast no spyware but I haven't used it for quite some time.
I only use these programs to find rare/live stuff or to be exposed to new stuff, I still buy most of my stuff.

Is eMule related to eDonkey? My dad is obsessive over eDonkey, and Bearshare. Then I have friends who used limewire for the longest time. I've been using Kazaa-lite the most recently, no guilt from me.

yeah, eMule and eDonkey are related... I don't know the specifics to be honest, but I had tried eDonkey once and it didn't seem as user-friendly as eMule. To my understanding it is basically different clients for the same network... :)
I think I'll donate five bucks to soulseek today... That way you get downloading privileges, meaning that you won't have to wait in queue behind other users. :P :D

Most of the bands I download are on small labels who give most of the money from sales to them anyway, so I always try and buy the CD even after I've downloaded it.
And buy I most of my CDs from the record label or distros. That way you can be guarunteed that much of the money will go to the artist.
