I think some also believe that after that, there will be 7 years in which the remaining people on earth have the chance to convert to christianity, then after that period, those who still didn't convert go to hell and the rest are saved.

From what I remember of my Christian upbringing, the Rapture happens when Jesus comes back and all the saved Christians dissappear off to Heaven and then the anti-christ comes back and fucks shit up on earth for a while and then anyone who wasn't saved in that interval goes to hell. After that God has "cleansed" the Earth and all the saved dead people go live on Earth instead of heaven or something.

That's just what I recall from what my mother spouted off about after reading the Left Behind series.
