View Full Version : Who's Your Favourite Communist Leader?

I don't just mean leader of a communist country, a leader of anything really. Who would it be? Trotsky, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Tito, Castro, Hoxha, Khrushchev, Obama (hope not)

I personally have great admiration for the likes of Lenin and Trotsky, and if I had to pick the leader of a communist country today I would probably say Fidel Castro, while he has achieved some good things, and he did overthrow Batista, big points right there, I don't think anyone who ever really lead a communist country allowed enough freedoms. It's just something that's been on my mind, I don't really expect many responses, but please share your opinions which of these leaders is your favourite and why?

Ted Hill. Australian Communist leader, superbly adapted theory to Australian conditions, and a had very perceptive mind.

I'm sorry but you've lost me. What exactly are 'Australian conditions'?

Every single member of the Proletariat, they should be the only leaders.

Take for example, the at the time unusually strong trade unions, the struggle of the indigenous people, etc.

That Lenin fellow was pretty decent I suppose.

And as a side note, wouldn't a topic like this make more sense under history? I can see the tie to politics obviously, but it just seems based more heavily in history than not.

Stalin, I have a soft spot for Connolly, Bhagat Singh, Huey P Newton and Mao, but Stalin is #1.

Obama (but don't tell Glenn Beck about how there is actually 100% consensus on this forum that he is our secret ally that is taking American down the path towards socialism)

Communist, as in Marxists or party-members?
- Rosa Luxemburg
- Daniel DeLeon

Communist, as in, one person seeking a classless society, regardless of tactics?
- Rudolph Rocker
- Peter Kropotkin
- those previously mentioned

Communist, as in, those seeking to kill all babies and ruin our country and establish a New World Order?
- Obama

My favorite Communist is Antonie Pannekoek, however, I don't have a favorite "Leader" due to leaders irrelevant to the working class.

So, the point of this thread is . . . ?

I mean, a thread about leadership (what it entails, how we generalize leadership skills among communists generally, etc.) isn't a bad idea, but why the fuck are we listing the big names of the historical failure of the capital-C Communist project?

I just wanted a thread about peoples opinions of leaders, I didn't say just the big names, the first comment was Ted Hill, anyways it's just a thread I felt like starting, I suppose it doesn't have to much of a point, I thought I might hear about some new people, and see peoples justifications for certain leaders. And mocking Obamunism conspiracy theorists is fun too.

GLORIOUS COMRADE OBAMA

Luckily only the Tea Party knows what we're up to, so far.

P.S.- Bet you didn't know that Marks and Engels only started up in 1917.

that kind of thing looks really fucking stupid if you can actually read Cyrillic

something like this

?OS?D???T?

?RYA∃D?IG TN∃ SH∃D?TN!
??IS∃ 1917

I never understood the appeal behind faux-Cyrillic mock ups, but it seems to scream "communism" to some people when they make graphics like that.

Clearly they're sticking to Obama the glorious "socialist".

I thought the same. I almost peed my pants when I read your comment on it.

It's better when you can do English, Spanish, and Cyrillic. When I see the Я, I read "ya" which in Spanish means "it's over." So when I see something stupid like that, I think "Ya! I'm done looking at that shit!":laugh:

Kropotkin = communist?
...facepalm. You should of read the sentence I put above him and Rocker, which read "Communist, as in, one person seeking a classless society, regardless of tactics?"
So, yes, he wasn't a communist in the sense "hey, i'm a member of the Communist Party' rather he was "hey, i want to achieve communism, which is a classless, stateless society" (see: anarchist-communism)

But if we're being picky and only picking Marxists, then I simply choose DeLeon and Luxemburg. Why?
DeLeon - I'm closest to him, ideologically. I think he had some really great ideas, and I think DeLeonism is a legit theory that sadly couldn't blossom more. I wouldn't call him an orthodox Marxist, but he called himself a Marxist and drew heavily from him, so I'll stick with that logic, I suppose. His only downfall is that he was too sectarian and arrogant to let others criticize his ideas, whereas the next person I'm going to discuss loved debates and to have others criticize her...
Luxemburg - She was an insanely intelligent person. She was probably the best theoretician on capitalism since Marx and Engels. Sadly her work and legacy is simply overlooked and she's regarded as a leader of a failed revolution, which disregards her entire life's work! She had legitimate arguments against Lenin and the Bolsheviks in the early years (1905) and her later years (1917-1918) while stay being a hardcore Marxist.

I'm an Anarcho-Communist, so I don't have a favorite 'leader', however if I had to absolutely chose, I'd probably pick Lenin, for his passion.

On the other hand, that design looks quite intelligent-- nay, profound! if you can't read Cyrillic.
