I hope I posted this in the right place. We have a park in my city (Richmond, VA) called Monroe Park. It has been a hang out for the homeless for years. And for years the city and a nearby university have been trying to kick the homeless out and renovate the park. This would force the homeless into a horrible shelter built on arsenic-poisoned land.
The battle for Monroe Park escalated recently when a city council member pushed his renovation plans. He refuses to listen to constituents and the church and social justice groups that use the park to feed the homeless. They say there is no alternative to Monroe Park, but that politician won't listen (what else is new).
Local activists have been petitioning since the recent aggressive move by the city councilman. Soon we'll be having a party in that park as sort of a creative protest.
